Asda vs Aldi

What is everyone's opinion on using Asda home delivery or using Aldi to save money?

I constantly go back and forth between the two thinking I'm saving money but I've just got back from Aldi and spent £66 on a weeks shop then had to go to asda to get a 'top up' shop of things aldi doesn't stock like frozen veg and baby food.
I had to arrange childcare so I could go to Aldi as well (no way am I taking baby shopping) and I'm bloody knackered!

I go back to work in 2 weeks full time as well.

Are the savings worth it, or is it outweighed by the convenience of home delivery from a store that stocks everything?

Lots of veg and scratch cooking here, and aldi both cheaper than better than the loyalty card places. They sell frozen food too.

Aldi every time.

Asda is mayhem and too big. Last time I was in there, I had to climb up the shelves to access something.

Aldi is a supermarket I am used to for many years as I lived in Germany. So pleased it is here and their bread is lovely.

I think aldi is cheaper but if you are short on time then what you save may not be worth the hassle.

Avoid Asad delivery though. Its absolutely awful. There was a thread on here the other week about how bad it is.

I think the thing with Aldi is pretty much everything is own brand so if you stick to that in another supermarket there might not be that much difference.

However I was say for the price the food in aldi is nicer quality.
I find unless I buy fruit from Waitrose.or m and s it just doesn't last anyway.

I think the other big difference is that Aldi don't do multibuy 'deals'.

For example bleach in aldi is 30p. In morrisons it's say 45p or 3 for £1. You end up buying 3. It's only 70p but do that many times over and it makes.a difference to you bill at the end.

Also you then have to store it somewhere.

In aldi you don't get penalised for buying just 1 of something.

I would pick Aldi over Asda, however I tried a complete Aldi switch earlier in the year for 5-6 weeks. I was having to visit two supermarkets to get what I needed, rather than just doing it all online, and for me, the savings weren't outweighing the time. If I had more time and couldn't spend that time earning more money (like I can now as I'm self employed), then absolutely I would choose the cheaper option, as Aldi stuff is mostly good quality.

I tried Aldi for a few weeks- I found it was no more cheaper than Morrisons or Tesco. Plus I couldn’t do a full shop so had to go elsewhere to top up

greendale17 · 31/12/2017 11:09

Forgot to add- the fruit and veg were awful- only last 2/3 days max. Wasted money there.

somewhereovertherain · 31/12/2017 12:35

No competition Aldi all the way. By far the best supermarket. You’d need to pay me to go anywhere near ASDA.

greendale17 · 31/12/2017 12:59

I don’t class Aldi as a supermarket whatsoever

I have used asda to get my shopping delivered for a year now. If you look properly and get their own brand they are more or less the same price. Cheap bread is only 50p in asda which is tje same as Lidl or aldi. Children's yogurts are actually cheaper is asda or so it has been in my experience. I think 49p for 6 whereas Lidl or aldi they are more. Look through the products on the asda app and see if youbcan compare prices. I always find they're not much different.

I generally do Aldi as like a pp said. Less temptation of other stuff.. Things that I need that they don't sell I generally go to sainsburys as it's opposite DS school and on way home from work. I did Aldi Fri and got tonnes for £47 all fresh etc. Only frozen was a pizza I fancied for lunch.. I'll do sainsburys for any top up bits in week but looking at my fridge etc it will only be milk and fruit.

Our Aldi is great for fresh veg.. Never goes off when all kept in fridge. Lasts about a week which is good as I go weekly anyway

Last time I did Asda... I spent £214... I nearly died lol. But here was lots of treats and random home stuff.

I also go to Wilko for toiletries about once a month but that varies as depends if done Costco in between
