Do men have to support their wives after a divorce if no kids

My parents who are divorcing are getting conflicting advice from their solicitors (suprise, suprise).

My mum is retired as 63 but has a decent pension as she was a teacher. Also state pension.

My dad is 63 and has a teacher's pension as well. He doesn't get state pension yet and is working earning about 11k a year until he's 65.

Mum wants half of that 11k salary. Her solicitor says she's entitled to it. His solicitor says no way. Is this a grey area or are the solicitors just trying to drag this out and earn money?

There is a duty on married couples to support each other even after divorce. So technically your mum's solicitor is right, but whether a court will agree to that if she is comfortably off already is another matter.
