Can anyone help me please?

Just started doing home parcel deliveries on a self employed basis and don't know what to put down has mileage on my expenses.

Should I put from my home location till when I get back home or from the depot to the last drop. I'm not to sure on tax rules for this.

I would imagine that getting to the depot is seen as your commute to work. Between the depot and delivery addresses, you can claim mileage. If you ring HMRC, they’ll be able to advise.

Do the parcel company pay mileage? If so, you need to check their rules on what they pay as expenses.

For tax purposes (although I would be surprised if you earnt enough to pay tax if your only taxable income is from the parcel delivery work) if you're self employed, all mileage including that between home and the depot and the delivery addresses can be claimed as your 'work mileage' because your normal place of work is your home address and in theory, you could work for more than one delivery company.

You would need to keep a basic record, eg 18/12 - drove to depot, collected X parcels for delivery across Y area (eg town/county) - Z miles. In the unlikely event that HMRC wanted to investigate, the parcel company could supply a list of drops to verify the mileage claimed.
