Ex owes me £10k. How do I get it back?

My ex ended our relationship in October. I lent him £10k in July to buy what I thought was our home. When I gave him the money he said he would pay me back in full when he had it. I had wanted to buy 50% and to have my name on the deeds in proportion to what I had contributed. He told me that I shouldn’t worry, to keep my money as I was being made redundant, and that he had enough for both enough of us.

In October I asked him when I would get the £10k and he then asked for a detailed budget of what I had spent since we moved into the house. I sent it, he ignored it, we argued and he threw me out. (Gave me two days in the same week my Dad had died and two months after I had been made redundant) He told me then that he hadn’t let me contribute more or put my name on the deeds (it was bought outright) so that he could kick me out.
All part of the abusive relationship I know.
And I know that I was stupid.

Anyway. He has ignored my emails and I know that he will ignore any letters. (He is totally dysfunctional and ignores everything until the bailiffs arrive - despite having a very high income and low outgoings).

How do I get my money back?

Were you married? Do you have payments to him on your online bank statements?

We weren’t married. There is the single payment to him of £10k on my statement immediately before the house purchase.

OP, you might want to send one more email or letter (ensure there it goes recorded delivery) explaining that he knew that the money was a loan, that it has to be repaid and that if he will not contact you by x date to come to a reasonable arrangement with you to repay then you will have no choice but to instruct a solicitor.

If he still fails to respond by the date you have given then go to a solicitor and sue plus request costs against him so that your legal fees are covered.

Good luck.

No advice but good luck. He's a major scum bag
