DP and I go over our monthly budget every month and it's driving me spare. Can anyone recommend an app we can both use for all family/living expenses.

Looking for something where we can allocate sums each month to certain subheads then see what we actually spend and rein in as nec.

Can anyone recommend something.. don't know where to start.

I use Toshl find it easy and it’s helped me a lot. Moneysavingexpert.com has good advice on budgeting.

Ynab gets good reviews.

YNAB.

Steep learning curve but worth it, and loads of advice on budgeting with partners.

Pls let me know if other votes for these or others!

YNAB is great but they've just whacked up the cost massively.... still, there's a free month to try it out first. It's really helped us rein in our spending and DH was shocked at how much money we were spending in certain categories.

Thx moggle.. do you think you’ll carry on using it despite higher cost?

Existing users keep the old pricing so I don't have to decide fortunately... for me I think it'd be worth it even at the higher price as it definitely saves us a lot more, but it's hard to justify it at the start as a one off cost when you've only got a months use of it.

Pen and paper to write down income and essential outgoings, then budget for other stuff. Only the data matters.

Stop going to shops unless you need something.

Thx for suggestions lovely people, I’m doing a trial on YNAB but will look into Toshl too..

Special we’ve tried pen and paper for 2 years but it just doesn’t work for us. If the app is on DH’s phone I think it will be easier.

Does anyone know of an app where you divide up home tasks as a couple and keep track of them. Again we do this pen and paper at mo but only semi works.. Maybe I shd post that somewhere else as not really money?

You can get a 2 month free trial for YNAB here:

investorjunkie.com/53582/ynab-promo-code/

It is a bit complicated to start with, but it's highlighted very quickly how unnecessarily complicated our multiple current accounts system has been! 2 individual accounts and a joint account with transfers and payments going all over the place. It's prompted us to join finances and move bank.

In terms of task management, I recommend Trello

Thx Jon, I’ll check out Trello.

And thx too London for YNAB trial info
