Renting with bad credit - help!!

I’m so stressed.

Unexpectedly having to move out of my parents house with my partner.

We’re both full time employed, good references and earn ok money between us. Not a great amount but we won’t be living off bread and water.

We’ve seen a flat we like, we’ve paid the admin fees etc. I have awful credit, probably the lowest it can be... my partners is the highest it can be and it’s a joint tenancy.

We’ve got good references and provided all the info we need. I’ve declared my credit situ to the estate agent.

Will we get the flat? We’re fucked if we don’t, we have no where to go. I can’t get a guarantor maybe, but we can’t pay six months upfront.

Will it help my partner has a good credit file? What will happen now?

I’m so anxious, I’m really working myself up. Sad

does it have to be a joint application? Can he “afford” it on his own?

It depends what type of bad credit. Loads of people on here will tell you that letting agents/landlords can only see publicly available information such as ccj's, bankruptcy, DRO's and IVA's. You may also be able to reside there as a permitted occupier but I think it all depends on the landlord or letting agent.

I had this conversation with a letting agent a few years ago. It's a lot better if you declare it. There's always a little box to tick to say if you've got ccjs/defaults/bankruptcy etc. If you say no, you're screwed, because they'll see it as trying to hide it.

What did the agent say when you told them? I got a mortgage with something lurking (5.5 years old, not a ccj) on my credit file - I downloaded my file and sent it to the broker beforehand so I knew exactly what the position was before they searched me. Best to be honest.

If it's things like lots of debt and late payments it probably won't show, they only see things like defaults, ccjs and bankruptcy. Me and DP dint have great credit and we've rented really good properties for years with no issues as we have a decent income, great references and bank statements showing we pay our rent and council tax on time.

When they credit check you they can only see CCJs and bankruptcy, as long as you don’t have either of these, you will be fine
