Can someone exsplain universal credit to me?

M partner works 40 plus hours a week I work 16

Two kids under 5

No childcare (we can be passing ships some days )

We get working tax credit and child tax credit (we rely on it)

Will we be now getting next to nothing? One mum told me at school she now only gets 18.52 a week ???? Surely she is mistaken

How much you get will depend on how much you earn between you. I doubt they will make you look for any more hours due to the age of your children. there is no point comparing the amount that someone at the school gate gets as her circumstances - eg household earnings, number of children, rent etc could be totally different to yours.

You will get exactly the same. However if you both earn minimum wage one of you will need to earn the equivalent of one extra hours work.

My husband works 36 hour week
I worked 20 hours a week

Yes, you will get transitional protection if you are migrated onto UC.

I've just lost my job and have been put on Universal Credit. By their own calculations if I get another job with the same amount of hours and pay I'll be just under £100 a month worse off than I was receiving wtc and ctc. It makes no sense to me at all.
