Child tax credit/income support single parent Help!!!

Allsortsofspuds · 15/11/2017 18:54

I have just become newly single, my dh was violent towards me and also grabbed my child and raised his fist to her.

I have of course chucked him out and have had to apply for benefits. I waited a week until I felt ready and I rang income support to apply by phone. They have now sent me a letter saying they want my new tax credit award. I then phoned tax credits to have my partner taken of the award. They unfortunately have stopped it and they won’t give me any money until I have my income support award :(
Now my housing benefits have stopped too.
I have 5 children

So basically the question is how can I apply if both parties want info from each other before they’ll even give me an award?

It’s depressing enough without recent events without this too. Please help, Tia

I don’t mean apply, I mean how can I be awarded either if they both want to hear from each other first

I had that.
It was because the systems talk to each other, so when I applied for income.support as a single parent, the system spoke to tax credits and they still had me down as being in a couple.
Call income support back and let them know that your joint tax credit award has now been stopped, and they should reopen your is claim.

BeautifulLiar · 15/11/2017 18:58

Income support should be processed anyway. This should take a couple of weeks.

Tax credits will be stopped unfortunately, and it can take up to 8 weeks for them to be paid again. It's ridiculous - obviously if your DH has left then you are on a lower income! Even if they just paid a set amount each week until the official amount was calculated. I went through all this last year (violent partner, four children) so I really feel for you x

Allsortsofspuds · 15/11/2017 19:02

8 weeks :( I have only enough savings and child benefit to get us through a month.
This is so depressing.
Especially with Christmas on the horizon.
I have also been left with the burden of all the bills and I’m in the process of changing them over.

I do get carers allowance and dla for my daughter but I’m now scared to inform them in case they stop these too.

It seems the more honest you are the more you are hit hard. Wished I’d waited until the new year now.
Thanks though

Go to housing benefit get your claim assessed as nil income

Allsortsofspuds · 15/11/2017 19:05

So with the income support form, I just sign and send the only recent supporting documents even if they were joint claims or do I only send bank statements.
I’m just confused as none of my latest documents detail what I now get as they’ve all been stopped except DLA and Carers, and child benefit?

Thanks abis I have tried that today with housing benefit but they said I need to be in receipt of income support and tax credits before I can claim. I also had to have it suspended as my dh is pocketing the money through his account 😡

Contact dla and carers these benefits are in your name solely? They shouldn't stop and you won't get much is as it's wiped out by the carers allowance

abbsisspartacus · 15/11/2017 19:09

No you don't have to be receiving anything to be claiming housing benefit you can be assessed on a nil income and they have access to tax credits so they can check themselves and redo it when your money comes in they just need to put a note on the sysyem

abbsisspartacus · 15/11/2017 19:11

If he is getting housing benefit paid into his bank account and he isn't living there they can take it back off him so make sure they do

Allsortsofspuds · 15/11/2017 19:14

Thankyou abis I will phone them first thing in the morning

I just wanted to let you know that the turnaround for my tax credit claim was really quick. I applied 2 weeks ago and my new award was paid to me 8 days later. It may be the same for you.

MohoBoho · 15/11/2017 23:18

If you have continuing problems I suggest you call into your local Citizens Advice who should be able to help you sort it out. Good luck.

ivykaty44 · 15/11/2017 23:23

Go to Housing Benefits and take 2 months of bank statements which will show other benefits ir not going in your account

Also ask them to apply for discretionary housing payment, try to do this ASAP as it can take time and you’re going to need the money

Is your land lord private? Or council HA?

ivykaty44 · 15/11/2017 23:29

All sorts HA need to know how much your benefits total so they can calculate how much HB and ctx relief to award you, but it will be paid once they have all your evidences - just make sure you take them in as soon as you get the letter ( even though they may get the info) if you take them in along with bank statements and any incomes then it won’t get held up

TotemIcePole · 16/11/2017 04:02

You can sign up to an online account with tax credits, you can then check exactly what you will recieve each week/month. You can log in 24 hours a day.

TotemIcePole · 16/11/2017 04:05

I think this is it
here

Its handy to know as it also gives future payments due.

Allsortsofspuds · 17/11/2017 20:02

Thankyou everyone x
