Is there a cut off point on how much housing benefit help with rent?

I'm not exactly sure how to word what I'm trying to ask so I'll try to give some information about my situation and hopefully it'll make sense!
I live in a 1 bed ground floor flat with my DS at the moment (I sleep in the living room and he has the bedroom) but it's really getting time to move now as I would like some living space back and not have to sleep in the living room but more because the upstairs neighbour's are too loud.. (they're probably not doing anything wrong, there's just no sound proofing between our floors and different lifestyles means both myself and DS are woken up in the night by their stomping) anyway.. I pay 525 a month now and can just about manage to get by but it seems all houses for rent start at around 650 per month and I wanted to know if I'd get more housing benefit to cover this increase in rent or if there is some sort of cut off point where they don't give you any more? Hopefully there won't be as without that help I won't be able to move and the lack of sleep here is getting to me. Sad

There is a limit; but it’s more complicated than just a set number. It’s based on how many bedrooms the government think you’re entitled to and how much they expect that to cost in your area.

If you google and find an LHA calculator; it’ll give you an idea - but do be careful that you check how many rooms you’d be entitled to first; they can complicated and stupid.

You should be entitled to two bedrooms.

One for yourself and one for your child.

If you then google the LHA rate for the area you want to move to and the amount of bedrooms you are entitled to then you should have an idea of the MAX housing benefit you could receive.

In my experience (south east England) a lot of 2 bed properties have rent slightly higher than what the LHA/HB is therefore you may have to top it up slightly, however that may be different for you cause of the area.

Good luck! I know have no personal living space and noisey neighbours can make life awful.

Online calculator for LHA is Here lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/search.aspx there's also a calculator for number of bedrooms.

It's for lowest third of rents (rarely covers all rent), but the area covered varies massively - mostly it's by county, mine is across two counties now as the county I'm in was considered to have rents too expensive so to save money they joined with a cheaper neighbouring council so many lost out.

It also changes when your child reaches 16 mine recently went up to being entitled to 4 bed because my eldest son turned 16
Hope you get somewhere soon can't be fun sleeping in your livingroom
