I know I see these sorts of threads all the time but I really don’t know what to give!!! I’m an all day guest

Depends how close you are to them and your financial position. £50?

JoJoSM2 · 27/09/2017 21:59

I agree, depends on your finances and how close you are. I'd probably do £50 for friends but a few hundred for a sibling.

Friends I see a few times a year. Got lots of financial commitments at the moment. Just don’t want to seem tight.

How much would you spend on a present for them and how much is going to the wedding costing you? I'd probably go for £30 for friends; £50 for close friends and family; and £50+ for best friends/siblings. I am from a culture that routinely gives cash however and less squeamish about it than much of MN.

The average gift at our wedding was £20, the range from £5 (very skint great-aunt) to £250 (very generous godmother).

We have always decided to gift the meal - so the average wedding breakfast meal is about £50 for a 3 course sit down with some wine so for a couple £100. That said, when we got married gifts ranged from £30 per couple to £100. It really doesn't matter. They've asked for you to attend as they want you there, not your money. Have fun!

We do £100 for friends, up to £300 for siblings.

YWNBU to do less if there is a shit poem!

candlefloozy · 30/09/2017 12:00

Thanks all. I gave £30. We’ve got a lot we need to be paying out for in the next few months! I asked another friend and she gave the same amount.

We would give £200 for a friend's wedding

Aroundtheworldandback · 30/09/2017 21:59

Sorry just saw your update, if your other friend has given that then I'm sure that's fine

somewhereovertherain · 02/10/2017 04:17

I always avoid cash as I end up giving more.

MotherofKitties · 02/10/2017 04:44

We were gifted between £25-£1000 at our wedding, and we were very grateful and touched by all of our gifts, no matter how big or small as we were just pleased everyone attended!

In average I'd say between £20-£100 as I think everyone appreciates it's expensive attending a wedding so just go for what feels right for you!
