Carer Allowance - what counts as income?

Hi, My husband and I receive adoption allowance. I unfortunately had to stop working some time ago due to a disability. My health has deteriorated recently and my husband has now become my full time carer. I receive PIP and ESA. My husband has tried to apply for Carer's Allowance but has been rejected because of the adoption payments. We were led to believe that as Fostering payments are not counted as an income (because they are specifically for the child) then the adoption would be the same. There is lots of conflicting information on the net and even when we spoke to Citizens Advice they were not sure. We have both always worked since leaving school and did not see this coming. Does anyone have any idea where we stand? Thanks

I've been researching this too for a family member you're right the info is conflicting. Your assertion sounds right if the money is for the child it should not be counted as income. Call the dwp and ask for a reconsideraction sometimes you get to speak to a competent person. Campaign against child poverty used to provide very comprecessive support. Not sure what their like now. Failing that a local carers centre may be able to offer help. Good luck
