Credit scores

This is just a moan, because I do understand that credit 'scores' are only really meaningful to the CRA that generates them, and when deciding whether or not to extend you credit, providers look at the actual activity on your accounts and so on and don't see the CRA score at all.

BUT, it is annoying me so much that despite me not having had a late or missed payment in over 5 years, staying well within credit limits, not being turned down for credit- in fact since opening a mobile phone account for ds1 in May, not applying for any credit and in the 2 years before than making a grand total of 2 applications which were both accepted (for a credit card and a mobile phone account), making sure all the things they say are important (electoral roll etc) are done, my credit score is miserably low. It has just gone down according to noddle and experian (although gone up with clearscore), even though the only thing that has changed is that I've increased the amount I pay off my credit card each month! I can't see why it's not rising and I definitely don't understand why it's gone down with some CRAs.

I have a default which was settled ages ago and which will drop off in August/ September 2018, so I don't expect to have a really good score for another year, but honestly, since 2012 every single account on my credit report is consistently green and I have never been even close to my credit card limit or late paying any bill by even a day. What more can I do to make CRAs happy?!

The scores aren't even meaning full to the company that generates them..... they're just a marketing tool that's all.

Seriously don't get worked up by what your score is, it literally means jack shit!

I had a higher score when I was in default and hadn't started paying it back! It's madness!

if you got a new phone contract in May that can lower your score for 6 months, all new credit agreements will make your account lower for 6 months (according to experian). this happened to me, i opened 2 new credit accounts which really lowered my score but 6 months after opening them (and making paymemts) my credit score drastically improved x

That would make sense becca... maybe they're slow about changing things as my score didn't change in June or July but in August went down with noddle and experian (but up with clearscore). Hmmm.

OP why are you ignoring what I'm telling you? YOUR SCORE IS MEANINGLESS!!!!!!

alltouchedout · 19/09/2017 16:56

I'm not ignoring you, lottie. I made it quite clear in my first post that this was mostly a moan and I knew that credit providers didn't see my score. But I am interested in why the scores that CRAs give change, or don't change.

There is no reason....... spin a wheel or roll a dice, they're totally randomised nonsense!

Actually checking your score with firms like Noddle can bring your score down, believe it or not. So someone who checks every month makes the firm suspicious there's something up - and they cut your score accordingly!

That's not so Vic.
