P45 and income support.

Hi there mums!
I really need some help on claiming income support.
So I left my job a couple of days ago at 29 weeks pregnant,I know you can claim income support from 29 weeks if you're unemployed so I'm kind of relying on this.
So my question is,will I need my p45 to be able to claim? This is a worry to me as my boss hasn't responded to my emails about when I should get this and I don't want to wait for it to come until I can claim as I'm in real need of money with being 29 weeks pregnant and leaving my job.
Can I claim without a p45 if I haven't got it yet?

Thank you so much!

Claim now they will ask for your p45 however they will give you time to provide it and the backdate your money where as if you wait to get it then apply they will only pay from when you have applied.

Are you not entitled to SMP?

I've quit my job altogether,so I'm not entitled to any maternity pay

Are you sure you're entitled to benefits then? I know you can't claim job seekers if you quit your job, unsure of it's the same for income support. Incidentally, why quit just to go on benefits? You are going to be drastically worse off financially.

Yes I can get benefits as i was informed that as I'd be 29 weeks pregnant I could.
I only worked 10 hours and worked out all of my money to find I would be better off on benefits than having the job I had,I did ask them about the p45 too which the man who took my call couldn't be sure so I thought I'd ask on here to see if any mums had done the same

I'm in the same boat. I quit when 14weeks pregnant and they said the p45 will be ready to collect within 2-3weeks. Its been 3 weeks already but my boss at the time has since transferred so I now have to deal with the new one, I'm going to ring back tomorrow to get an update on how long and I'll let you know....they can't refuse you one by law but I do know that for certain companies it can be at least 4 weeks depending on how long you worked there

Also you should of just gone on maternity early coz anytime after 15weeks before your due date and your entitled to SMP but that also depends on your earnings which u said u worked 10hours a week so I doubt you'd even qualify, I left because the hours I was doing meant I wouldn't qualify for SMP and I hated my job so it didn't seen worth it and my partners wage is more than enough (lucky us) but if you find your better off then fine coz I believe being home with the kids is much more rewarding until they hit school.
Check on the gov website it is really informative and can help you calculate your benefits if entitled to any. Good luck

Great thanks very much! Are you going to or have you claimed income support? Just not sure if I need the p45 to claim. A friend who has before said I don't need one I just wanted to double check

I'm struggling to understand why anybody voluntarily resigns from a job while pregnant.
Purely from a financial point of view its much, much better to stay put until you can go on maternity leave and then "decide" not to return.

You must provide a P45 and you must supply it within 28 days and, they now ask why you left work and contact your employer.

Personally I wouldn't have risked it.
