I am just worried about being grilled, and massive over payments.

I am coming off TC as have a small income now, however I am so worried about over payments also from when DH wage went up, there was a terrifying thread on here the other day about being up front, telling them as soon as circs change but then getting massive bill Shock

DH wage went from something about 20 thou to 25....we got £57 ish a week - sometimes less. Now I want to come off altogether and wonder how much I should be trying to save to cover any so called over payments!

I cancelled my tax credits in June . I was quite worried about the process i.e. The grilling etc and felt like I was doing something wrong. It was actually fairly easy, they weren't really interested in why I was cancelling them (I am still entitled but have choosen to end my claim) but they did ask if I wanted to end now or at the end of next tex year which would leave me with an overpayment. I said I wanted to end now and I received a letter about a week later detailing my overpayment which I paid back in 2 instalments.
The longer into the tax year you leave it the bigger repayment you will have

Thanks bim that's how I felt! I called up and they Said I couldn't cancel them now, would have too wait till next April. So any money I get now from them will Go away in separate account but they can only give you proper details in April as they work from April too April. So do be prepared!

I cancelled them in the past. I was clear I didn't want to be assessed on a different income but just wanted to end the claim. They ended it. End of story

That's a shame you weren't able to cancel. You should try again and insist that you are cancelling. Failing that I'd definitely be keeping the money separate
