Help when unable to work

My DS was between temp jobs and receiving tax credits (presumably being overpaid so will have to be paid back) , but was not claiming unemployment benefit. She has now broken her arm so will be unable to work for around 6 weeks. Is there a benefit that she is entitled to which will help her out? If so is it likely to be assessed quickly and paid in the short term?
Many thanks

She may get contributions based ESA if she has paid enough national Insurance contributions over the past few tax years. Or if not then Income related ESA if she has no other income and no partner. It can take many months to be assessed for ESA but she would receive the assessment rate of £73 a week, more if no other income.

Many thanks for that - I'll look into that for her.
