Removing default notices - success stories

CBB79 · 04/09/2017 14:02

I am after help in removing defaults on my credit report - 2012 and 2015. They were from when I was married and had no income of my own due to emotionally abusive ex husband.
I would really appreciate any help and advice as trying to clear my credit report

Like starling says you can't do anything to remove them, unless of course you can prove you shouldn't have had them in the first place, but it doesn't sound like this is the case from what you've said.

Even if you paid them off they would still be down as satisfied defaults and will drop off the same month you got them 6 years later.
So you are going to have to wait a good few years yet unfortunately for them both to eventually drop off

Yep you'll have to wait the 6 years... paying them off retrospectively makes no difference... believe me.

You can ask the company who placed the default if they will remove it (there are situations in which they can be removed), explaining exactly how and why the debts and the defaults occurred.

If they are for relatively minor sums, some companies will remove it as a courtesy but it rarely happens.

You can also add a notice to your own credit file explaining the defaults (not 100% sure how, contact Experian) BUT companies are not obliged to consider this or even read it.

So it is possible to get defaults removed before the six year mark, but unlikely.

Source: I used to work for a debt collectors. We did occasionally remove defaults.

OP you can PM me if you like and I could try and give more specific help - if these sums are under £100, if they were repaid or if the debts were sold on to a debt purchaser, who they're with.

There are honestly so many variables.
