Universal credit

Our local area is switching over to universal credit later this year and I wondered if anyone could tell me how it'd work for us?
Together my husband and I get working and child tax credits, dla, industrial injury benefit, carers allowance and child benefit. Will all of this switch to one payment? Will there be a time when the I can payments vary as they get paid in on different days?

Universal Credit replaces Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, Housing Benefit, Income Support, income based JSA and income based ESA.

Eventually you will need to switch to claiming UC instead of WTC and CTC. At the moment in full service areas you should only have to switch if there is a relevant change of circumstances e.g. if you wanted to make a new claim for HB, you would be redirected to UC. Later, existing claimants of the legacy benefits will be migrated over. UC is paid by single monthly payments.

Your DLA, industrial injury benefit, carer's allowance and child benefit will be unaffected by UC. However DLA is being phased out so you will be "invited" to apply for PIP soon.

You could try using a benefit calculator to see how UC would affect you, www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/startcalc.aspx

You won't be moved to UC straight away , it may be as late as 2022.

Thank you. So for us it will just be uc rather than tc. I was worried that there may be a period when we have to wait. Sounds as though it won't be too traumatic.
