Can I do anything with these found shares?

Hi all I wonder if anyone can help advise us? My parents bought a piece of second hand furniture a while back and recently as they got it from the garage to do it up at home, they found, hidden inside it was a certificate for some shares back from 1985 bought for the sum of £1160. What on earth do we do with these? Do we give them back, i assume the person is deceased due to the nature of the shop it was purchased from as that is how they acquire their stock, do we bin them, or are they some miraculous find that for once in our lives we've been fortunate to come across? Any help would be most appreciated, thank you in advance :)

The shares will form part of the deceased person's estate so the right thing to do would be (if the company still exists) to give its registrars a call. This is likely to be Capita, Equiniti or Computershare. Even if the company no longer exists, the share certificate may give the right to shares in a different company (e.g. if it was taken over). I'm happy to help further if you PM me the name of the company.
