I am single parent and on housing benefit and tax credits how ever i have started doing more hours at work as i need more money.. when i applied for housing benefit they asked for 2 months wages slips then gave me my monthly award.. however since then iv increased my hours and my pay has increased by about £250-£300 pm.. does anyone know if they ever randomly check wage slips or am i safe to continue

You won't be okay.

We owed them thousands because we told them our new situation and it wasn't noted, so they overpaid us.

We didn't realise until we got a letter years later demanding it all back.

We appealed because it wasn't our mistake and we had told the truth, but you are deliberately lying and they will catch you out and you will have to pay them all he money back. It's just a matter of time.

When you send in your tax credits renewal they will know exactly how much you have earned, if this is more than you have declared then you will have a huge overpayment to pay back. That will then follow on to housing benefit who will be informed and again a huge overpayment. You will have more money in the short term however, they will find out and you will have to pay it back.

They don't need to ask for your wage slips. There is already a record at hmrc with all the data from the wage slips (your employer submits the details to them when they give the paper copy to you).

The match up between the fraudulent money you are taking and the money you are earning will happen sooner or later. The sooner you switch to being honest, the less pain in the long run.
