Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me with some advise please. We desperately need to move, we're private renting at the minute. We live in a tiny 1 bed flat with our 1 year old and have a crazy, aggressive neighbour who I do not like being in the vicinity of my child. We've applied for council housing but are right at the bottom of the list. We've been trying to save for a deposit so we can move privately but we're getting nowhere. All deposits round here are £500 and it's taken 6 months to save £200. We have Noone who can loan us money, and can't get overdrafts or credit cards due to poor credit. Does anyone have any advice on what we can do please, we're desperate.

Some councils have a scheme to help people on low incomes get a deposit like a loan scheme. Could either of you take a second job doing an evening in a bar or something ? Are you claiming any benefits you are entitled to?

Some councils have a list of accredited landlords and can offer a loan for the deposit too. .
If you get some references from job /school teacher maybe, a deposit could be paid in instalments alongside your rent (I have done this previously).

I'm a stay at home parent, I've been looking for a job but there's nothing at the minute, (coastal town everywhere hires youngsters for the summer) hubby works, minimum wage. We are getting everything we're entitled to at the minute. I've asked at the council for a list of landlords and they said they don't do that. I wasn't aware a deposit could be paid alongside rent though, how would that work, just discuss it with the landlord/letting agent? Thankyou everyone for taking the time to answer me, I don't like to discuss money worries were just getting desperate now, the neighbours getting crazier and crazier as time goes on

Suppose how you pay is at the discretion of the ll. I found a nice one after leaving my ex and paid extra every month til the full amount was paid.

Cleaning can pay quite well or shops like spar or co-op might prefer someone more responsible rather than a young person, or care homes. It's hard but it's the only way. But try and relax, your dc is only 1, so won't remember any of this. Keep saving and you'll get there in the end. X Flowers

That's really reassuring and calming the fact that he won't remember. Obviously I'm stressing at the minute but your right he won't remember it in the future. Luckily I have managed to get taken on today a couple of hours cleaning per week at a hotel :) it's obviously not much but if we put aside that money we'll have enough be gore Christmas :) thankyou all for your advice :)

And the crazy neighbour situation has now escalated to him shoving into my husband when he's walking past. Awesome.
