Euro exchange?

FreeNiki · 09/06/2017 12:25

I have some euros that were sent to me as a present by a relative. Ive kept hold of them for

Given that the pounds value has dropped again is it best to exchange them now or hang on to them?

A crashed pound is clearly a bad time . you will need to consult your crystal ball to see if things will improve. Still higher than a few years back though.

Also if you don't have much, the fees will take most of it. Hold on to them or do a deal with someone going to the eurozone.

There is a load of places that dont do fees. But will hang on to them.

A crashed pound is a great time to buy sterling.

Now is a good time to change Euros into pounds, it is a bad time to do the other way and change pounds into Euros.

Everywhere does fees, just hidden in the rate. But yes, silly me - you are selling euros so it is a good time. Oops.

If they are in an account then transferwise usually has very good rates and low fees.

If they're cash then it might be worth seeing if any friends are planning to travel to the Eurozone soon and want spending money. A no fees transaction at bank rates would benefit both of you.

Yes but the rate they offer will be a lot lower.

Like Apple says, if you want/need the money now, ask friends/family/work colleagues if anyone wants to buy them at the official bank exchange rate (currently 1.13 at www.xe.com) and it will be the best possible deal for both of you.

Of course, if you expect to go to the Eurozone this summer, just save them until you need them? But no-one can predict how the exchange rate will vary in the future and unless the amount is huge, the effect will be small anyway.

As an example, I took out 250 euros before the general election and the rate dropped quite a bit and I worked out that the amount I'd gained was about a tenner. So a nice little bonus for me, but hardly worth bothering about in the great scheme of things.
