My husband had applied to 2 different companys for a loan for a house deposit.
He applied in his name only. We don't have a joint account and all our finances are separate. So i dont understand why upon checking my credit report tonight why they have credit searched me and where they got my details from my husband never gave them my details juat stated he was married and his credits not linked to mine. The only link i can think of is electoral roll. Why would they credit check without permission and when its not at all in my name. Also his company run credit checks when they started on me as well as him.

You can't get a loan for a house deposit .
If you provide another reason for the loan when asked then that's fraud .

Also lenders won't accept borrowed money for a deposit.

delilahbucket · 04/06/2017 19:40

You must be linked financially somehow. Does it show on your credit file any associations? If he was applying for an unsecured loan then they won't have credit checked you without permission. This would suggest your dh isn't telling you the full story. The fact that he has applied for loans for a house deposit means he has lied in the application because, as pp said, you cannot do this.

Dingalingalingaling · 04/06/2017 20:42

Do you mean he as applied for a mortgage, rather than for a loan? Do you already have a deposit available? If you are going to jointly own the house, even if the mortgage is only going to be in his name, the lender of the mortgage will need to know who else will have a financial interest in the house. Could that be it?
I think it might be an issue with the terminology you've used in your original post that is causing confusion.

PedantHere · 04/06/2017 20:44

You can't borrow money for a deposit. You must have mixed something up.

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 20:55

He applied for mortgage yes.
Hes definitely telling me the truth. Can't find any financial links. He started with a new company in February, part of the applocation process was a credit check that has also is showing up on my credit report too. We can't find any links at all which is weird. He definitely didn't tell work my details. The house will be in his name only not just mortgage. We decided it was best that way due to our family situation.

Will you be jointly owning the house, or will it be in his name only? If it will be in his name only, and you are married, you will have a financial interest in the house. The mortgage company will need to know this. Therefore, as he is applying for a mortgage, you are now financially linked.
Otherwise, you could get divorced, claim for a share of the house leaving the mortgage company out of pocket.

Is there a reason you do not want to be financially linked with your husband?

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 21:38

Not that i dont want to be finicailly linked. I didnt want my income taken into account init as i am career to my 2 dcs with sn and most of the money i get is there benefit and careers allownce and tax credits which i feel aren't secure enough for a mortgage so didn't want to be getting a mortgage that wasnt easily managed on just dhs wage.I asked here a bit confused as i didn't understand how they got my details when they never requested them just ask my dh if he was married that was it.

And if you don't jointly own the house it will cause problems if something happened to your husband.
Would it be possible for you to elaborate on what you mean by 'family situation'?

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 21:42

I just did

OP posts:
Dingalingalingaling · 04/06/2017 21:43

Sorry - we must have both posted at the same time!
If he's told them you're married, that financially links you if you're buying a house and getting a mortgage. You cannot avoid it. Let the mortgage company decide whether your income is secure enough or not - your husband cannot hide financial dependants, as the mortgage company will be interested in that too, and to withhold that information would constitute fraud.

Dingalingalingaling · 04/06/2017 21:46

A mortgage company would assume that a married couple are going to have kids at some point when deciding whether to lend money to someone or not.

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 21:48

Hes hasn't not told them hes done it all properly was just confused about cred8t checks

I used to work in mortgage underwriting. If a married person applied for a mortgage in their sole name, I would definitely check out their spouse to see if they had any defaults etc. However, this would be done via a different type of search so it wouldn't be visible to other lenders. It wouldn't create a financial association between you and your husband.

If you're unhappy you can complain but it's pretty standard, I'm afraid.

In which case, the Data Subject (i.e. you) can see a search has been done, but it wouldn't impact you credit record.

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 22:40

Ah ok thank you that makes sense.

Wasn't unhappy just didn't understand it.

It should have been made clear to your husband, and consent sought, for that search to take place. But a mortgage application is a long winded and complicated affair, so he might not have realised they would be doing such a search. But if you've got access to your credit record, it should state what type of search it was, or you should be able to clarify with them.

Whirltime · 04/06/2017 22:45

I will clairfy. It says on my credit report that search was done and then says type of search information not available

Think my husband got confused by it all as well. To be honest we never thought (because i cant work) that we would be in a postion to buy so not got very clued up by it.
