Selling on Gumtree

I have someone coming round to look at an item. I'm not sure what to expect. Does look mean they'll probably buy, subject to it being as described, or that they're literally looking and might not buy?

Will they expect to haggle on price? I've never done it before and will probably cave straight away.

I'm also a bit self-conscious of my home - not my flat which is clean and nicely decorated, but of the shared hallway outside which is a bit old and musty and could do with some TLC. I'm afraid they'll be put off before they even come through the door.

Is it normal to offer them tea/coffee? I never have guests and don't drink it so don't have any in or really have any idea how to make it...

they'll look, probably haggle a bit, then more than likely buy. decide in advance your lowest price. dont worry about anything else - no tea, coffee, no sitting down. if a high value item, beware fake notes.

I find people usually like to haggle before they arrange to come see the item. Ive sold around a hundred items on GT and have only had 1 person haggle after they arrive, well apart from cars but I think that's a given!

Ive also never had anyone not buy them item after coming to view (again, apart from cars).

No need to offer tea or coffee, they should be in and out in under 5 minutes.

It's too complicated, try not to stress :)

Keep item near front door if you can, so they dont get to go inside too much.

Dont put loads of details in emails about what time you finish work etc for a collection time (as this gives strangers an insight as to when your house is unoccupied)

Its generally fine, Ive sold a few bits. Ive been haggled with on price, I said No & opened the front door for them.

Most people are lovely.
