Anyone know anything about jewellery?

My mum died in 2012 and I inherited a emerald and diamond ring but I really don't like it and have never worn it .never saw mum wear it either so not very sentimentality attached.
I would like to sell it to get a ring I would wear to remember my mum .is it better to to auction to sell and would it be better to go to a specialist shop say in jewellery quarter or Hatton garden to buy /sell? It's not hugely valuable - insurance valuation around £5k. I'm completely clueless about this so would welcome any advice.

No advice about selling it but have you thought about getting the gems made in to something else instead. Lovely stones and you could get a smaller diamond ring and a diamond and emerald pendant out of it?

I think it is really lovely but sadly you'll get nowhere near the insurance value. Maybe have replace the emerald with a diamond or if you don't like the style have a new one made from it as Lurker said.

Hmmm I hadn't thought of that . Presumably a modern jeweller would be best place for advice on that?

Yes I would look for a jeweller you like and see what you think. There are some good examples here of what can be done with some imagination.

I suggest going to a specialist as with auctioning it depends on whose in the room on the day, you need a trusted well astablished jewellers in your area. Wink
