s im with Northern Rock and they've been fab to us. Our 5 years fixed rate is due to expire next April. We might take out another 5 year out to extend our mortgage (if my Dp buys the business off his boss next month). NR are fab as esp when i was on maternity leave for 6 m, i didnt pay my mortgage for the whole 6 months, and also they have holiday pay offers to us every quarter and cheap interest rates too

Who are you with and why are you with them?

I'd be interested to hear from people too, we've been with the Abbey for 12 years and they've been fine, but our discounted mortgage ends in April and they can't offer us anything near the rate that we are currently on so I'm dreading what our monthly payments will be .

and of course as a sahm this falls to me to do the research and deal with all the money side of things!

Nationwide. Very low fixed rate for 10 years.

Twiglett · 14/03/2007 19:27

just moving from North Yorkshire which was a tracker mortgage pegged at .75 above base rate but at base rate for first 2 years to a 2 year fix at 5.25 with Cheltenham & Gloucester

moving because its cheaper and we should save 2K if interest rates stay the same and more if they increase (they would have to drop .75 for us not to save any money and that's not likely is it)

How does a 10 year fixed rate mortgage of 5.8% sound to anyone?

that would more or less clear our mortgage and I can't see the rates falling.... any thoughts anyone?

Not sure but my Dp just gone into this line of work so if want advice give him bell got a site on 'firstforfinance.net'

Britannia - 4.99% fixed for 3 years. Otherwise, would have gone with Yorkshire, Leeds (I think) or Nationwide. In fact, stick with teh old building societies - less likely to fleece you for admin fees etc and feel more ethical

Eddas · 15/03/2007 20:45

We've just switched to Nationwide, have always found them very competitve. We went with their 5 year fixed. Their fees are about the lowest you can;t get i think. Some places fees are extorshonate[very bad sp!???)

Upsadaisy · 15/03/2007 20:47

standard life......they're alright.

Bubbaloo · 15/03/2007 20:54

We're with Kent Reliance building society and have found them very good and very competitive.

Debbiethemum · 15/03/2007 20:56

We use Saffron Walden Building Society, they are based in Essex. We had a two year discounted rate with them & no penalties for changing. When the two years were nearly up, THEY called us to offer us a new deal. So I am very happy with them

Another one here with a Nationwide. Just fixed at 4.99 for 2 years. We've been with them for about 6 years, no probs. You can overpay by £500 per month and overpay a lump sum without penalty in the last year of each fixed period.
