Repairs under warranty - what if the company is just not doing them?

Our front door is broken (the lock). The company who put it in was taken over by a different company, who have supposedly taken on the warranty thing. But they are just dragging their heels and not doing it.

How can I make them? Can I make them?

Awww, emkana

I think in your position I would sign up for Which legal service - it's about £10 for 3 months and then you get to speak to a legal expert person who wil advise how to proceed. We just got £500 out of a storage company whose roof leaked!

Will find you a link in a sec

Contact your local CAB, call back the company and tell them you will seek legal advice if they do not carry out the work because I'm sure that a warranty is like a binding contract.

I could be wrong but that was my understanding of it.
I've heard of so many companies that do this and they drag their heels so long that by the time they get round to doing the work, the customers warranties had expired.

You contact your local council who will deem your house to be unsafe because you cannot lock it and they will put pressure on the company to fix it, or they may well fix it themselves.

Thanks everyone.

Will now go away and think which of these things I will do first...

Which legal service

Oh, it's £10 to subscribers, £13 if you aren't. Still cheap advice though!

zippitippitoes · 13/03/2007 21:25

rhubarb you are tongue in cheek aren't you?

emkana · 13/03/2007 21:32

Err, no I'm not. Our council sent a security guy round to check over our house and we got locks fitted for free.

The council can also help with disputes over this stuff if it means that your house is left unsafe.

emkana · 13/03/2007 22:02

Thanks rhubarb, that's good to know.
