Sorry stupid fat fingers hit post too soon ConfusedConfused

*have been struggling with various debts and today I have come home to this letter from Phoenix Commercial Collections LTD:

"REMOVAL NOTICE

I have attended your property to collect the sum outstanding of £amount (inclusive of fees and costs, on behalf of the above named client) or remove your goods for sale at public auction.

If I fail to receive contact to make arrangements for the collection of the above balance, I will return at a time convenient to me.

You do not need to be at the property for me to remove your good"

There is a mobile phone contact number handwritten at the bottom with the name Brian however there is no signature or anything else.

I'm confused for a couple of reasons:

A) the envelope was addressed to me and DP, however the letter itself only has DPs name on
B) the letter states that the date of visit was yesterday (3/5). I was home all day yesterday and did not have a single knock on the door or have the bell go (live in a very small 1 bedroom flat so no chance I wouldn't have heard it)

I have spoken to National Debtline's online web chat service and they have advised me to speak to CAB in the morning (which I plan on doing). I also tried ringing the number provided, but no answer so left a message.

Can anyone give any advice regarding this other than talking to CAB? Would be very much appreciated.

The advice depends on the type of debt. Who are they collecting for? Credit card/council tax/hp?

Have you had any contact from the courts about this debt?

orlysox · 04/05/2017 19:54

Sorry should have included. They're collecting for Council Tax. When we received the Notice of Enforcement a couple weeks back, we did ring the company and explained our circumstances and lack of finances and as we were deemed vulnerable were told by company that they would pass this info on to the Creditors (I assumed this to mean the Council) and would contact us to arrange a recovery plan. This new letter is the first contact we've had since

Council Tax, as I understand it, is one of the more 'serious' debts, in that court can, and will, send bailiffs and the bailiffs can actually force entry in some circumstances. You should have received summons and correspondence from the court though, are you sure you haven't missed any letters? There is better advice on Money Saving Expert if you want to read up online but it definitely sounds like contacting CAB in the morning is a good idea. I hope you are okay.
