Are they standing orders? The person who sets them up can choose a nickname for them, may have chosen ** as a way of recognising them - is this your account or a joint?

PopcornBits · 24/04/2017 12:01

Isn't that the reference for the payment? You can set up a reference for payments you send out to people, usually for things like standing orders so you can write down what the money is for.
Sounds like they've just put the asterisks there and no real description of what the money is for.

kittybiscuits · 24/04/2017 12:03

I agree that is what the payer has chosen for the name of the recipient. How much are the payments for?

blueskyinmarch · 24/04/2017 12:05

Is someone trying to hide where/who they are making payments to perhaps?

user1475574526 · 24/04/2017 12:10

Thanks all.

It's my husband's account. Is the suggestion that he set up that name/reference? He says it's the bank interest/fee charges for that account.

How much are they for? I think you can set it up yourself. We have done with things like nursery.

gamerchick · 24/04/2017 12:12

Sounds like he's hiding something to me but I'm a cynical old boot.

...will reply later. Friend at door and have to go out.

Its not fees. They would have a distinct reference. Its something he's set up.

TupperwareTat · 24/04/2017 12:16

Banks automatically take the money.

Cammysmoma · 24/04/2017 12:27

Hey, I work for Santander. This is something he has set up himself and the reference is "*"

It is definitely not bank fees of any sort or interest. These would be distinctive on statements.

Hope you get it sorted

I've just done a triple odds offer and praying my football match doesn't draw so my winnings go into the exchange and I don't have to do the 2nd part.

I've had a few reload offers already, and WH sent me a birthday free bet!

Don't forget cashback!!!!

MrsWombat · 24/04/2017 13:30

Sorry, wrong thread!

ImperialBlether · 24/04/2017 13:36

Which bank is he with, OP? Between us one of us will be able to show you what should come up for fees.

averylongtimeago · 24/04/2017 13:46

Bank fees and charges are always clearly labelled as such, can you check on line to see who regular payments go to?

user1475574526 · 24/04/2017 15:45

Right, back now and I have done some more digging. It's a Barclays account - when you expand the transaction it says something about it being 'pers OD tier 2 @£XX' (personal overdraft). It also has a little picture of a bank with an arrow point to it i.e. bank charge.

So it seems it is bank charges....they could have just written that in the bl00dy description!

Thanks all
