DH bought our house just over 6 years ago before we were together. At the time, he had no probs. paying the mortgage and everything was fine.

As time has gone on, we have had several major problems (like him needing urgent heart surgery, and having his overtime and part of his salary permanently axed and me having a car crash and subsequently losing my job because I now can't work etc.)Our income is now much less than it was, and we cannot afford to pay the mortgage and secured loan any more. We have racked up several debts between us, and I have got a few CCJ's too.

We are looking to move into a rented house when we leave here, and as DH has now unwisely cancelled the DD for the mortgage, that will be very soon. How much do letting agencies poke around in your finances before they agree to let a house? Would it be enough to prove that we can pay the rent/bond/bills etc. or would they need to know that we are squeaky clean with no debt? (Gulp!)

I would appreciate any advice please, there is nobody that can help us out with the mortgage so we have got no other option but to leave

Hello sorry your in this situation and sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but every house i have ever rented they do a credit check on all people that are going to live there. If these come back bad then they will not rent you a property. Surely though if you get kicked out of your house because you can not pay the mortgage the council would find you temp accomodation. Good luck
