No win no fee on pylons compensation?

We got a letter out of the blue from a no win no fee solicitors saying that as we have electricity pylons on our land that we could be entitled to compensation. They would charge 20%+vat on anything we get. We have several pylons across our fields (we have total 14 acres) so this could be lucrative if it's for real.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it worth us filling in the form they sent for more information? Hubby thinks it is as we have nothing to lose.

go look at the pylon, who are the owners (there will be a label)
phone them up and ask to speak to the "wayleaves" team

around £100 per pylon per year
to allow them the "wayleave" to run it across your land

you should always have been getting that money

the solicitors want a cut of what you can get for little effort
tell them to take a hike

and ask your own solicitor WTF they were doing not sorting that when you bought the land

Thanks I'll ask. I know who owns the pylons so I'll phone them tomorrow. Maybe the solicitors did contact them. There was so much paperwork I can't remember. We've only lived there since August so not missed out in much!

Ah, if since August you may not have missed a payment as they are often in the winter (I deal with Parish Councils so am sadly well informed on wayleaves)

I have had this and so has everyone of my neighbours. No pylons in the area. They are just fishing. Tell them to bugger off.

We do have the right type of pylons and several of them across the farm including the field we purchased in November so should be getting more money than before from them anyway!

We have a cheque sent to us around October from the power company to pay the wayleaves across our farm - covers transformers, pylons, poles and a section of underground cable - works out about a tenner per pole or so.

As far as I'm aware wayleaves should be sorted out at the time of land purchase or sale (bitter memories of trying to get wayleaves sorted out when we sold half acre to a neighbour ) so maybe speak to the solicitor who handled your sale as they may have sorted it (hopefully )

We've had the same letter and I looked into it at the time. It's different to the wayleave payment. Iirc, it's a compensatory payment for the reduction in house value because of the pylons and it's usually a percentage of the house value. (I think it's called easement)
You don't need to go through the companies that do this, you can negotiate directly with the power companies but from what I've read online, you do tend to get a better deal using the specialists.
We haven't got around to doing anything about it, but we may do at some point.

Ah yes, Easements - but they are one off and if the previous owner already got it then you are out of luck.

I emailed the power company today with plans of our land. The previous owner of the house may have got compensation but we have since bought a field which also has power lines and stays which may not have been claimed for so we shall see! If it turns out we are eligible we will be getting someone proper and legally trained to do it as a) I'm too busy and b) they apparently get more money. Even if they take a percentage, it's money we didn't have before. Watch this space........
