Dp just drove straight through a red light at a crossing on friday.I was in the car with him and he just drove on as if there were no lights! He can't believe he did it and we are now wondering what will happen?

If he was caught doing it then he will get a letter from the local police constabulary asking you to send off a fine (£60?) and also your licence for 3 points. Failure to do so will result in a summons

I only know this because my step-dad was caught very recently by Warwickshire police and that is what happened to him

noddyholder · 19/02/2007 13:41

thanks That sounds about what we thought.Better than ds saying he would go to prison!

How do you know you've been caught? There was a camera I think but no flash

be worth sauntering down and seeing if there is a speed camera at the lights - if its close enough

Tortington · 19/02/2007 13:43

you dont until the letter from the police comes through

fortyplus · 19/02/2007 13:44

If by any chance he was doing less than 15mph he won't have triggered the camera.
Even if he was, not all lights have cameras.
Our local court fines people about £300 I'm afraid.

itsmeNDP · 19/02/2007 13:44

Yup, you just have to sit and wait.

StepD's letter stated that he ran a red light 2 seconds after it had turned red.

Tortington · 19/02/2007 13:44

i got £60/65 fine last time.

noddyholder · 19/02/2007 13:46

Custy how are you?I hope things have settled down for you a bit.See you next week xx

itsmeNDP - The camera fires if you go over after 1 second.

Blu · 19/02/2007 13:46

I got one of these at a junction. I still can't see where the camera is! But I knew at the time I shouldn't have done it and have been super-scrupulous about stopping at the first hint of amber since. Probably nothing at all will happen. But you may get a letter in the post, as NDP says. Don't panic at the letter if you do - the first one that comes through says 'Intention to prosecute' or something and seems v scary. You just confirm that it was him driving, send it back, £60 fine and 3 points.

Blu · 19/02/2007 13:48

ooops- unless you live in FortyPluses area!

fortyplus · 19/02/2007 13:49

Cases heard at Watford Magistrates' Court. a friend also got £300 for doing it in Norwich about 15 years ago

Blu · 19/02/2007 13:53

fortyplus - are those the ones that make it to court, either because of persistent offences or particularly bad cases, though? Or maybe people who dispute the camera evidence or don't send the letter back saying it was them? Surely most don't actually make it to court, the courst would never be able to deal with anything else?

fortyplus · 19/02/2007 13:55

I really don't know - I'm just a sad git who reads the Court pages of my local paper in case anyone I know has done something naughty!
