*** All my bank charges refunded! ***

Just thought I would let you know, anyone who is currently in the process of trying to get their bank charges back, stick with it!

I started this back in October and the bank came back to me twice with reduced offers.

I took it to the court stage. It's dragged on and on and on, and I am heavily pg, and it's been stressing me out.

So many times lately I've wished that I didn't start this process at all, or that I had taken one of the reduced offers. It has cost me £250 in legal fees but today I got a letter from my bank.

They want to settle out of court for the full amount and all right they're not going to pay interest or legal fees, I suppose because that would prove they'd done something wrong, but apart from that they're refunding everything! It's about two grand !!

It will pay off my overdraft and leave us with about a grand to spend on all the nice baby stuff we really wanted to buy but couldn't afford... oh and a digital camera to take photos of our lo!

I just wanted to say, if you are feeling down or despondant (sp?) about this, and you are starting to wish you had taken the first offer, or that you'd never even started in the first place, stick with it. It will happen.

Good luck to anyone going through this. It is so stressful but it is worth it!

(I know there is a thread for bank charges somewhere but I couldn't find it, sorry!)

congratulations bwwfmm. spend and enjoy. We are on 2nd letter stage,(Lloyds tsb have until mon). I do keep reading not to go into this unless you are REALLY prepared. but still scared of the process. We are only looking for 500 back. it does make me angry though that they can charge so much. So will you now avoid charges at all costs or are you like me, posted the first damn letter, 2 days later letter from bank comes though for £30 for this and £35 for that. damn damn damn. must try harder.

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 14:09

CurlyN I'm trying to decide now whether to stay with NatWest once I've paid off the overdraft, or to go to another bank. I've been with them since I was about 10!

I am thinking of going to join one of those banks that have actually taken notice of the OFT and reduced their charges to £12. But in the meantime, avoid all charges!

CurlyN forgot to say, one of the things that made me decide not to take the second offer was this: just when I was seriously considering it, I received a bank statement through with a charge on it. For going £4 over. A day before payday.

Kind of gave me the will to carry on!!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY- why £250? did you get a lawyer or something? court fees?

ThisValenTime · 16/02/2007 20:58

BB - can I ask you a question please? My Bank account & credit card are with same company. CAn I request the charges from both? If so can I do letter 1 (asking for charges over 6 years) on same letter.

Regards

bump for busy bean

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 21:28

Busybean, I paid £120 for MCOL, and then another £100 for the court fees, and then the rest is what I estimate interest would have been between the time I started and now. I know the £120 is non-refundable, not sure about the £100 though, I'm going to ask them, although I'm not cancelling anything with anyone until the money actually goes into my account!!!

Brilliant.
Enraging to think how they have been fleecing people for years.
Bastards!

Busybean · 16/02/2007 22:53

ThisValenTime -Tbh, unless your claim is less than £1000 I wouldnt even go through the letter route, just go ahead and submit court claim. If you do want to go down that route, then yes if the head office is same for both then that should be fine.

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY -The court fees can be claimed back, what stage are you at with claim? have you applied for warrant of execution yet? if not then I would ring court and ask for that, fill in and send back, that way, you still get money back(they will still settle out of court) but then you will also get your £120 back too

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 17/02/2007 08:01

Busybean thanks for that I will try it!!
