Buying a house together but with husband name

Could somebody please advice me? Husband and I have some savings which will go against deposit and stamp duty. I am SAHM currently and hence we are not able to get joint mortgage of the desirable amount. Financial adviser suggested to take mortgage on dh's name only to get the desired amount. Obviously the house deed will also be in his name ( banks don't allow different names apparently). Could this be a problem in future in case of loss of life or tragedy. We plan to take mortgage protection cover for loss of life and critical illness. I completely trust my dh, in case we grow apart in future, I know he will be honest and fair.
Is there a possibility to add my name further down the road?

I would say (based on no qualifications or real knowledge so could be wrong) that this financial advisor is giving you potentially illegal advise. Surely the reason DH can get more alone is that he is fraudulently not declaring his dependants on the application. I can't see how he could get more on his own otherwise if your credit rating etc is fine?!

We had similar with nationwide a few years back. Had to buy the house in my name as my partner at the time didn't earn enough. We could borrow less with him on the mortgage app than off it. Maybe it was 4x one persons salary or 3xhigher earner and 1xlower earner?

We were advised to get married as then it wouldn't matter as we would own it jointly. Or we could have had a deed of variation after the mortgage was agreed to put it into both names.

So we got married.

It is becoming not uncommon for Lenders to offer more £ if the mortgage is in on name if the other party is aSAHP In my view this is potentially very dangerous for the SAHP
And should be against public policy

Sorry, tagging on an older thread but I'm a SAHM, never really contributed financially and have always been on the house deeds. We moved three years ago and I've just checked and the house is in both our names. Very strange that some people are being told it isn't possible.

I'm not on the mortgage either though. That's just my husbands debt. We're with HSBC for the mortgage (or rather he is!)

Very unusual for title of house to be in joint names and the mortgage to be in one name
