We have a 15month old son we decided it was best for my fiancée to stay at home and raise the child rather than having a childminder raise him.

I work full time basic salary £27000 my take home pay works out usually between 1750-2000 per month depending on overtime

We only claim Child benefit as that's all we're entitled to, but we're finding money a struggle heres a break down of our monthly out goings:
mortage 493.82
Life and mortage protection insurance 75.55
tv license 12.12
sky 28.91
unite 14.06
vodafone 16.2
gas 25
elec 37
season ticket 43.62
UNITE 14.06
Vodafone 26
anglia water 28.9
council tax 121
e/s water 22.63

the the once a years bills
CAR INSUR 700
CAR TAX 185
HOME INSUR 200
which equates to roughly 90.50 pm

we spend around 100 each months on petrol which leaves us around £600 for days out and shopping for clothes and food. How does everyone else manage and does my bills seem high we live in a 3 bed semi.

I would advise against getting a water meter, especially as you live in a house! Your bill will be so much more expensive. And you can't change it back once you have it installed.

How much is your food bill?

Your life insurance is ridiculous. I contacted a broker and only pay £10 a month for £170k level cover, and there was only one insurer who didn't class me as high risk due to family history. Dp is covered under his work pension so he doesn't have a separate policy.
Is your mortgage tied in? Can you shop around for a better deal?
Everything else seems pretty reasonable to me (although your petrol costs seem high when we only spent £70 a month on diesel with a 45 minute commute each way twice a day) and the amount you have left over shouldn't leave you short. We have a £500 a month budget for food, going out and clothes for three of us. This is plenty and we certainly don't scrimp.

How old is your partner? I passed my driving test a few months back and with me as main driver our policy is only £350 per year. Def shop around.

Does Unite still do couple memberships?

Petrol is high. Coupled with the insurance cost I think you might need to change your car. 600 disposable or 600 for all other bills? If disposable then you're not doing badly. If all other bills that's where I would cut first - far too much.
