Why? Its all relative.

kicksupastorm · 16/11/2016 19:27

I have £65000 but am paying that alone, currently will be paid off by age 59 but I'd like to renegotiate and pay it off a couple of years earlier if possible.

Bluntness100 · 16/11/2016 19:29

It's not the size, it's the mortgage in relation to uour joint income. Our mortgage is about a year and a half joint salaries.

Thatwaslulu · 16/11/2016 19:30

I'm in my late 30s, so maybe a bit younger than you expected, but not sure whether this could be helpful. I have 9 years left on my mortgage, it was £45k and I have £20k left to pay.

It's all relative. Confused Some could pay off £145,000 in a few years, for others it would take a lifetime.

NineInchNails · 16/11/2016 19:33

I'm 40. I have 25 years left on a mortgage but only pay £500 pm.

eternalopt · 16/11/2016 19:34

What's age got to do with it? It's more to do with income surely?

Vinegartitsvera · 16/11/2016 19:34

Age 40 and 44. 20,000 left over 3 years. We have thrown everything at it though in last few years.

Madbengalmum · 16/11/2016 19:36

39 and have no mortgage, yay.

Chickydoo · 16/11/2016 19:37

Late 40's paid off

SpeckledyBanana · 16/11/2016 19:39

41, 20 years left, about 1.7 times joint income left to pay.

Late 30s - about £650k. Sad

leccybill · 16/11/2016 19:43

I'm 36 and DH 42. We owe £85k still.

WhisperingLoudly · 16/11/2016 19:45

Late thirties about to take a new one close to 6 figures. Is what it is.

MadameJosephine · 16/11/2016 19:47

too bloody much! Just bought ex out so have £117000 left to pay. Planning to downsize if I can as I never would have planned to take that size mortgage out on my own

Babyroobs · 16/11/2016 19:47

Late 40's. Just paid it off but might extend it again if we decide to move.

IEatCannibals · 16/11/2016 19:51

Am 40yo. 29k left on mortgage.

jelliebelly · 16/11/2016 19:58

45 and £250k

SillySongsWithLarry · 16/11/2016 20:01

I'm a smidge younger than 30 but have the choice of mortgage free by 40 or bigger house and start again. The leap from a flat to a house here in the SE would add another £100k over 25 years. I'll come back in 10 years and answer your question.

Ta1kinpeece · 16/11/2016 20:01

I cleared my mortgage in my late 40's
but I was lucky and bought my first house for £30,000
and every time I moved kept the mortgage end date the same

I could never afford to buy the house I now own at current "values"

MadMadDonna · 16/11/2016 20:09

I'm in my forties. £185k mortgage but house is worth £1m+

45 and by a very fortunate turn of events it's paid off. House is worth about £425k. Wondering if we should move up or sit tight. Life is pretty cushy to be honest. Blush
