Hi everyone,

Im new to here, been looking on the internet alk morning for help but can't seem to find an answer so thought i would write on here for some advice...

I have started a new job and have to work 2 weeks in hand so I budgeted what money i had left to last me...anyway i dont know where or how its happened but i have lost my last £20 that was for my electric, i think its fallen out my coat pocket when i've been getting something out. Anyway my electric has now gone it went off at 10am this morning, i have rang utilita who is my provider and they said they cannot do anything to help me as im in the process of leaving them (for very good reasons may i add) i explained my cooker is electric so i now cannot feed my son properly but thry just don't seem to care.

I have asked my friend who said they can't help me out aswell as my sister, they are the only close people to me.

So does anybody on here know of any charities or grants that could help me out today (saturday) as i've rang round a few different places i've seen on the internet today yet none of them seem to operate on a weekend!!!

Thankyou in advance

Lovemum9

They've told you wrong though about the friendly credit as it says your electricity will stay on until 10am the next working day, Saturday isn't a working day, you need to speak to a manager

Lovemum9 · 29/10/2016 15:31

Batterys low will try them again now and hope my phone doesnt cut out

That stuff Marsybum posted about friendly credit mentions smart meters though, and OP doesn't have a smart meter so it might not apply.

Also gather candles and torches.

Neighbour if you have none, don't have to say no electricity say trip keeps going and electrician coming tomorrow.

Maudlinmaud · 29/10/2016 15:32

What a nightmare op. Hopefully they will rectify their mistake now. Tell them you have a baby in the house.

legotits · 29/10/2016 15:36

Write down the electricity number on paper if you have no bill handy for when phone dies.

TrishanFlips · 29/10/2016 15:41

Could you charge your phone to a neighbour'so?

Lovemum9 · 29/10/2016 16:02

So waited for half an hour on hold to be told the same thing that i need a smart meter fitting for the friendly credit. Absolutely useless they are basically using me needing help against me to try and get me to accept a smart meter so im tied in with them so they can rip me off even more. Im furious!!!Angry

I do not know my neighbours i live in a block of flats and wouldn't really want to stay with them, these flats are pretty rough if you know what i mean Sad

Without a smart meter, the friendly credit just functions as a 24 hour warning to put money on - so it went off at 10am.

You could contact social services and see if they could help, OP? It might be considered relevant to them if you can't feed/heat your child at the moment, and I know they can help with food parcels so perhaps they can help with this. You'll be hard pressed to get much other help on a Saturday. I think crisis loans have been stopped and it's now managed by your local council who aren't likely to be open.

Otherwise do you have lots of blankets and food you can eat cold for the weekend? It's not ideal but if it's not too cold in your home, it might be manageable.

The smart credit meter will trap you with the rubbish companies, so it's a rubbish idea, but they've probably discharged any duty of care by offering £10 emergency, 24 hours notice plus the offer of a smart meter.

Lovemum9 · 29/10/2016 16:17

I've got 10% battery so dont think my phone will survive another phone call but will try now. Yes got blankets and put extra clothes on my boy Sad sandwiches for dinner too it looks like.

Thanks for your help.

Is there a church nearly that you could go to for help? or social services?
You need to get some help and support to get you through the next few days.
where in the Country are you op?

Hi all
Thanks to everyone who reported this thread. OP, we hope you are able to get the help you need. Though we do advise all our members to be aware that not everyone on t'internet is who they say they are, and that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

op have you tried talking to your employer and asking if they can make a loan against your salary payment? Many employers will be used to this sort of request especially from people who are left with a wait for their first pay day. Its worth a try and the worst they can say is no.
