You can print the forms from the website and then post these (or hand-deliver).

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 17:10

phew will have to do that

if my friggin printer was working!!

hmm will have to get someone to print them! Why isnt it every easy!!!

OP posts:
Skribble · 29/01/2007 17:14

Beg!! a neighbour must be able to print these off for you.

Eddas · 29/01/2007 17:18

Trust me, you are one of probably millions still not to have filled it in!!! I'm an accountant and we have loads left to do!!

Can you get to your local tax office? they should be able to give you a blank form.

Let me know if you need any help

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 17:19

Eddas, the small matter of not keeping record of any incomings or outgoings could also be a sticking point

OP posts:
edam · 29/01/2007 17:21

I reckon it took me 24 working hours to do my return (filled in a paper version so I knew what I was doing but actually filed online). Next year I'm using an accountant!

Eddas · 29/01/2007 17:21

Hmm, maybe a bit more tricky , but again you are not the only one. You should see the shambles I get given!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 17:24

Im hoping it will be easy.

I just childmind 2 children - very part time and can see th earnings in the bank account and can estimate my outgoings from working out averages of food etc is that ok?

I dont think I will have even earnt enough gross to pay tax

will i be sent to prison!?

OP posts:
Skribble · 29/01/2007 17:24

You need to lock yourself in a quite room with all your receipts and stuff and not leave until it is done, send someone else out to find forms and bring you tea, not alcohol.

I did this last year, whole years accounting done in 2 night argh!!!

So get off of here and get on with it.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 17:25

Receipts you say skribble......hmmm!

Skribble · 29/01/2007 17:27

On the actual tax credit form you only have to fill out the total turnover and the total tax deductable expenses, you don't have to give detail, apparently they don't bother too much with those smaller returns .

Sounds like it would be difficult for you to do accurate accounts anyway if you haven't kept track through the year, watch that you are not missing out on expenses like milage, loo rolls etc etc.

Skribble · 29/01/2007 17:28

Having said that I don't think tax inspectors are into rough guessing .

Eddas · 29/01/2007 17:33

Ok, don't panic!! You should keep receipts but in reality people don't. They are mainly concerned with income anyway IMO.

Work out how much you earned. If it's not enough to pay tax then you won't actually get fined for filing late anyway, HMRC keep that fact quiet! If your income is under £4,895 then even without taking any expenses into account you will have no tax to pay.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 17:50

HALLELUJAH!!

I didnt start childminding until January 06 so its actually only a few months worth!!

That had just completely escaped me hurrah

OP posts:
Eddas · 29/01/2007 17:56

You should be fine then

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/01/2007 18:30

Im panicking again now - will I have to work out my own tax?

My income for the whole year (childminding and other self employed job I did from Sep - Jan) comes in at £3074

OP posts:
Eddas · 29/01/2007 21:14

Hope you're still about, yes you do have to calculate your own tax. Have to file the return by 30 Sept for HMRC to do it for you.But you won't have any tax if that's your total income so don't worry

Ladymuck · 30/01/2007 15:25

The only reason that you need to calculate your tax is because any tax due becomes due on 31 January. If you are comfortable that you have already paid any tax due int he year there is no need to perform the calculation - the IR will do that for you as part of the various checks on the return. If you file by 30 September they promise to calcaulate it by 31 January, any later it is their best endeavours. Saying that my return went in on the 9th Jan (without calcaulations) and the repayment was in my account a week later.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 30/01/2007 16:11

So I know for sure that I dont have to pay tax so I can just put my income down then ? Do I even have to bother putting my expenses in if it wont affect the tax I pay?

OP posts:
Eddas · 30/01/2007 20:31

Yep just put in your income. Make sure you're keeping a record of expenses for the current tax year so that you can offset them

Milliways · 30/01/2007 20:38

We used an Accountant, who got our rebate up from £5K to £8k, duly paid up by Mr Tax man & still no bill recvd from Accountant

Eddas · 30/01/2007 20:46

Your bill will come from the accountant, trust me !!!!

I work for a firm and we only bill at the end of the month so i'd expect something soon !!!!

Milliways · 30/01/2007 21:37

But he did ours months ago!!
