How do I find out when and where a court case is being held?

The magistrates court case was 'adjourned until March 3 when it will committed to Crown' according to the local paper.

March 3 is a Saturday, do they hold Crown court cases on a Saturday? Is this the date it will be heard? Will I be allowed to sit in the public gallery while the case is being heard?

Unlikely to have court on a Saturday I would think.

Unless it is a restricted court - depends on nature of offence - then the public gallery is normally open for all who want to go.

A lot of courts have websites with each case to be shown covered.

they do have some court cases on a Saturday

it will be committed in the magistrates court, not the crown court - it's a legal procedure rather than a hearing that precedes the information being sent to crown court

so it won't be heard then; it will have to be committed to the crown court and they will decide when to go ahead

you can sit in the public gallery; it's a basic right. unless it's a youth court or there's a really good reason

you won't hear much though - if a case is to be committed to crown you're unlikely to hear more than name, address, details of charge and bail applications. it could only take a minute or two

is it a case that the local paper will be following? if it's a really local paper eg a friendly weekly rather than a regional daily, you could always call the reporter and double check the date as you're confused that it's a Saturday

I'd've been happy to help when I was a court reporter on a weekly

Thanks for your replies, so its unlikey that the case will be heard on March 3rd then.

About a restricted court, can you tell me more please?

I need to go, there is more information on this thread.

That is, I need to go to the court case, I need to find out exactly what kind if a man I let close to my children for all of those years.

Will I be allowed to sit in the public gallery with this kind of court case?

of course you can sit in the public gallery

it shouldn't be a restricted case; he is not a minor, it is an adult offence. There will be restrictions on naming any children but not on naming him.

I can't see why it should be restricted in a magistrates court; if the press are allowed in then so should you be

it will be heard in crown court after it is committed there but they have their own diary so it won't be adjourned until a particular date
