You can write grovelling letter and explain what happened. CRAP crappity crap.

scampadoodle · 27/01/2007 21:56

You MUST write them a letter - don't just ignore it. Explain the situation & that you have a valid permit. & that they surely can't expect you to sit by your car all night to ensure this doesn't happen!
I have successfully contested unfair parking tickets. Often they'll waive it just to make you go away

I would say it's worth a shot. Not sure what the legal situation is tho'. I once had a ticket fall off my windscreen and the warden was still on the street when I returned so I nabbed her and she came with me to the car while I found said ticket which had slipped down windscreen and she told me who to write to and they let me off. However, with a permit, I think part of the obligation is not just having the permit but displaying it... so I think you'd have to hope for a nice official to believe that it was actually there and not in your handbag.
Sorry not much help, but as I say, it has to be worth a shot.

Write to whoever issued it and contest it.

I recently got a fine for £60 for "not displaying my parking ticket" however I had got a ticket -it was on my dash board (not a sticky backed ticket) and had blown over when I shut the car door.

I wrote off to the council (address on the fine paperwork) with a photocopy of my ticket and they have said I don't have to pay but gave me a verbal "slapped wrist"

ScoobyDooooo · 27/01/2007 21:58

No i don't think you do as long as you can prove you had a permit in date you should be fine, do you have a arking shop where you can go & speak to them?

hatwoman · 27/01/2007 21:59

this has happened to me and also to my plumber. in both cases we wrote - and sent a photocopy of the errant permit and they let us off, with a stern warning to make sure we display permits properly.

utterlyconfused · 27/01/2007 21:59

"barking" is that?

JanH · 27/01/2007 22:00

I have heard of people getting tickets (and subsequently having to pay ) when the permit was on display but upside down.

Worth objecting, and I hope they will be sensible and kind, but they may not be. Good luck.

dizzydo · 27/01/2007 22:04

The annoying thing is it is the permit holder the Council supply with the permit that is obviously cra* and doesnt stick propertly. Don't think I'll mention that tho.

I have got off a parking ticket before when it fell off the windscreen. I wrote a slightly snotty letter enclosing a photocopy of the ticket, and accusing them of using inadequate adhesive . They let me off. SO it's def worth a try.

pinkbubble · 27/01/2007 22:04

THis actally happened to me twice BION (As I shut boot on car it blew ticket away). I wrote a very polite but grovelling letter (1st time I thought i would get away with it,and did, 2nd didnt think i would but really couldnt afford a ticket so thought it would stall time a little and again it worked) People can be human sometimes and its worth a try. Just remember to be polite

dizzydo · 27/01/2007 22:05

On second thoughts Mrs JC.. perhaps I will

I got a fine because the permit was put on the dashboard upside down.I wrote a letter saying my dim teenage dd did this, enclosed the permit and was let off.

hatwoman · 27/01/2007 23:31

I'm not suprised you got "let off" ggirl - that parking attendant was 'aving a larf. could he not read it upside down!

Millarkie · 27/01/2007 23:34

Write a letter and put in a photocopy of your permit. I had a similar ticket (my permit was on the dashboard but inspector didn't see it), and just wrote that `i have a valid permit, see enclosed'..ticket was cancelled.

brimfull · 28/01/2007 00:20

hatwoman,I mean upside down with the macdonalds add on the back facing up.lol

hatwoman · 28/01/2007 08:16
