Argh...sitting in all day waiting for a delivery....

DD is having a new bed delivered today. Delivery was supposed to be between 7am and 1pm. The bed is still not here and it is 1.45. I've called to enquire/complain, and have been told the bed should be here by 3. I'm not happy as I didn't expect to be housebound most of the day.

I'm wondering if I have a case for the £30 delivery fee to be refunded. What do you think? Any suggestions for how to go about it?

I would try but then I like a good complaint letter and the results they often bring

cece · 27/01/2007 14:00

At least yours is on the way. The one I ordered with a priomise of delviery within 5 days has not even contacted me yet. That was 6 days ago!

It's frustrating isn't it? I know the minute I get into the bath, or get involved in something, the bell will ring.....

Sorry, annoying but I doubt it legally ,as you haven't actually suffered any quantifiable loss as a result and it may be due to something out of their control. You can always appeal to their goodwill though, speak to the manager of where you purchased it and follow up in writing. Hope it turns up soon.

I'm not very good at sitting around waiting. I would be much happier if they had called to say they were running late so that I could get on with other things. IME, the 6 hour delivery time frame is always guaranteed to be frustrating because inevitably they turn up close to the end of the designated time....

Liz - yes, there is no quanitifiable loss, but my time is worth something. It's rapidly closing in on two hours beyond the designated window (a 6 hour window is generous, imo). I'm very irritated at the moment, but if I was due somewhere, I'd be furious. It is no way to treat customers who are paying for a service.

I'm gonna talk to myself on this thread while I wait. Still no sign of the delivery.

I'm now starting to wonder if there was a big sporting event on today, and the driver took some undeclared time off to watch?

Racing on at Cheltenham today. It's a trials day before the big festival. Hopefully your driver isn't in the bookies!

He's just arrived. Blames the delay on traffic.

It gets better. They've delivered and gone. Say they were never supposed to assemble the bed - even though that was my understanding with the sales clerk.

GUess I better get out my few tools and see what I can do. Not sure I can do the lifting that will be required to put the bed together. This is one of the times it's hard to be a single mum....

Making reasonable progress with bed assembly, but one of the screws provided is faulty - smooth surface rather than threaded. Argh - at this time on a Saturday evening, there is nothing open nearby where I can get a replacement.

Success! Bed assembled. I have blisters on the palm of my hand from screwing in 28 wood screws. A drill would have helped immeasurably. Can't remember the last time I had blisters....

Taking a quick break before I start on the trundle bed. It looks more complicated. Think I'll put dd to bed in my room so that I can crack on. Must get it done tonight as I've got lunch guests tomorrow.

House of Fraser will certainly be hearing from me on Monday morning....

sHOCKED AT SHODDY whhoops treatment by house of fraser

Thanks for your encouragement cece.

Task completed. DD helped, and we put new birthday linens on - which she selected. She went to bed 5 minutes ago. She looks so happy (and so small) in her big new bed.

I'm beat - where's the wine?

Well Done - we have it all to come if they ever contact me with regards to delivery?

edam · 27/01/2007 22:32

I'd get back to House of Fraser and demand a partial refund if I were you. If the salesperson told you the bed would be assembled, then that's part of the contract. Think it may count as misrepresentation.

twelveyeargap · 29/01/2007 19:08

Deffo tell them, "It wouldn't have happened if I'd bought at John Lewis." That's very poor.

Earlybird · 01/02/2007 13:04

Here's what happened in the end: the very helpful chap at House of Fraser (the one who sold me the bed), was on the phone on Monday. He was very cross at the way we were treated by the delivery company. He offered to send someone out to assemble the bed (on Friday!), but I told him it was already done. He has refunded me £50, which is the entire delivery charge plus some extra.

Thanks for the helpful ideas and sympathy!
