How much do you pay? I'm looking into 2 days and I can't believe how expensive it is.

£38 a day but that's slightly subsidised as it's a workplace nursery. Includes all food, wipes and suncream but you provide your own nappies. Think standard rate is approx £41 a day. However it is term time only (closed xmas, easter and 2 weeks of the summer hols)and only open 8-5 so wouldn't suit a lot of people. Almost home counties.

cexuwaleozbu · 26/07/2016 22:15

£42 a day. But remember that up to £230 a month of that (£53 a week) or double that if both you and the child's father accesses the scheme too - can come from your pre-tax income so each £40 of fee only costs you £32 off your actual take-home pay. The "old" scheme (available only if your employer opts in) is still in place but is due to be superceded with a similar plan accessible to everyone with a job.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 26/07/2016 22:21

£195/week 8-6 (though DD picked up earlier) meals included but Nappies etc not

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 26/07/2016 22:21

In west mids

pitterpatterrain · 26/07/2016 22:26

Where are you? It is going to vary hugely on location plus some places do difference pricing for over/under 2's

user31101993 · 27/07/2016 13:10

I'm in the South East, Surrey area! Very expensive. Your all I right I have looked into childcare vouchers and that'll basically pay for one of the days (the money I save) someone mentioned about a children's centre being cheaper? I never knew this Shock

OP posts:
FeeFighter · 27/07/2016 13:17

We're in Surrey, £64 a day Confused

FruitCider · 27/07/2016 18:05

It was me that said about children's centres being cheaper. In my area they are far cheaper. You only pay for the hours you need. And also it has an outstanding ofsted rating, hence 18 months on waiting list!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 27/07/2016 18:10

SW London we paid £80/day and provided everything except food.

When we moved to near Bedford we pay £43/day for nursery on the same terms as above and about £3-4ph for pre school.

It is incredibly expensive. At one point we paid more for three days of nursery for one child than we did for a £240k mortgage every month.

bigkidsdidit · 27/07/2016 18:14

Edinburgh, £38 a day. My eldest went to school last year and this year my youngest gets his free hours. The tough years don't last long

PrincessIrene · 27/07/2016 18:17

£1400pcm for a nanny 4 days a week. We have 4 children and this is cheaper than separate childcare for them. That includes mileage, tax, expenses etc.

Glitterball86 · 27/07/2016 18:21

£49.50 per day for a 10
Month old, he does two days. We have to supply nappies , formula and breakfast! I'm in the south west and this was one of the cheapest options!

Rainshowers · 27/07/2016 18:26

£63 a day in Essex, that includes food and wipes but we have to provide our own nappies. Pretty much the going rate around here, but DD loves it. I get childcare vouchers (DH's work doesn't offer them) which softens the blow a little, but we have to wait till next Setpember for her free hours to kick in.1

vickibee · 27/07/2016 18:34

Dos is 9 and in holiday club, £25 per day incl meals days out are £5 to cover transport cost, usually somewhere free like a park or museum. I think it is good value 8 until 6 if needed. South Yorkshire

EllieQ · 27/07/2016 18:38

£410 per month for three days a week for a 15 month old. This covers 8-6 (though we pick up at 5), all food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus snacks), and nappies, but we supply sun cream (and formula when DD still drank it).

This is the subsidised rate as it's at my husband's work - full price would be about £550. Day rate is £31 subsidised, £45 full price. We're in Yorkshire. We both get childcare vouchers which helps, partly because it doesn't feel like we're paying it as it goes directly from the payslip Smile

SauvignonPlonker · 27/07/2016 19:33

£55 a day, in Edinburgh, including meals, snacks, nappies, sun cream & open 7.30am-6.30pm.

CM round here are £5.50-6.00 per hour, so not a cheaper option.

DD is about to get her 15-Hr funding - hurrah!

Holiday club during school holidays for DS is £36 daily.

BackforGood · 27/07/2016 19:43

When you compare specific local options, make sure you compare 'costs for the year' so you are comparing fairly.

One may have a higher hourly rate but you only pay hours you need.
One may have a lower hourly rate but you might have to book a 'block' of hours
Some let you have holidays 'free', some charge 1/2 rate, some charge full rate.
One may include all meals, one may expect a packed lunch, or sep. money for meals, etc.
Some Nurseries I've been in then offer things like baby yoga / music / French (yup, really) on top, which, if all other parents pay for and you don't - what happens to your 2 yr old at that time.

Also worth asking about changes in rates as they move through the rooms - once your dc is settled and happy somewhere, you won't want to move them, but, over the course of 4 yrs +, it could make quite a difference.

milpool · 27/07/2016 19:50

£40 a day (8-6) with a childminder. Food included but we send nappies, wipes, suncream. Yorkshire.

There are cheaper CMs round here but ours is brilliant and worth every penny.

user1457480085 · 27/07/2016 19:53

I get my twins taken care of for £68.40 per day (10% sibling discount). I supply milk, nappies, wipes, suncream ... Hull

Lules · 27/07/2016 19:56

£83 a day. North London.Shock

ninenicknames · 27/07/2016 20:04

Berkshire £65 a day

BikeRunSki · 27/07/2016 20:12

£40/day
West Yorkshire
Sun cream and all food included, but not nappies.

maggiethemagpie · 30/07/2016 11:20

It was £57 a day inc nappies and meals. With two of them, that was £114 so we decided at that point for one of us to give up work until the younger one is in school.. and haven't regretted our decision!

liquidrevolution · 04/08/2016 16:08

West berks £65 per day including meals sun cream etc but not nappies and wipes.

She only does 2 days there the other two days is at a childminder (who is only slightly cheaper) as we cant afford the nursery full time.

Linok · 05/08/2016 14:40

£60 per day, they provide food and we provide the rest eg nappies, wipes, cream. I have 2 kids at the nursery and our childcare is almost double the cost of our mortgage, such a rip off
