I have received a statement this morning, following a letter a couple of weeks ago. The letter stated that their "fantastic team" had discovered they had been overcharging us and were "working very hard" to redress this

This morning I got a statement which says I have a credit balance of ?151.10 it states that my account is in credit and no payment is required. As my next bill is more than 3 weeks away can I ask them for a cheque or have I to just wait for them to deduct the amount from my next bill. Help please, I would like to know where I stand before I waste my time ringing them and spending all afternoon "on hold"

I reckon it's your money they took it off you by mistake and you have the right to request they pay it back in full immediatley.

dont think the will refund your money they may just keep it til you owe them money, (i may be wrong tho)

dont know how ntl work but with bt they keep it until it goes over a certain limit (3x direct debit payment i think) or until you ring them to ask for it to be refunded. cant see why they would not refund it, that would be odd

i have had Dealings with ntl. if you can afford to, give up now and let them deduct it from subsequent bills. or you will spend every waking minute trying to sort it out and then you'll have nightmares about it too.

BT took £50 out of my account that they weren'y meant to and refused to give it back and added it as credit to my bill I think as they had no business taking it in the first place and it's their mistake, you should demand it back in a cheque.

Don't know if this helps but I always end up ion credit with BT/Gas/electric.. I always ring when I get my statement and they crdit the money back to my account. I don't let them keep it - why should they earn interest on money that doesn't belong to them? never had a problem getting the money back

Ok, quick update. When I've had a good look at this statement they have already deducted this months bill from the money they owe me. What they actually owed me, through overcharging, was £240.00. The amount they now owe £151 is what is left after this bill. So they would have been hanging on to my money for at least another month

I gave them a ring and when I explained the lady said that what usually happens as its not a very large amount of money is that it is carried over to my next bill.

I pointed out to her that £150 might not be a large amount of money to her but it was to me and I'd like a cheque please.

Ok she said no problem it'll be in the post within 10 working days
