thistime, mummypumpkin are right - you do have to declare it if you are related to the landlord but they will do the checks I mentioned in my earlier post and if everything checks out they will pay the hb.

yes, sorry - posted v quickly and it sounded like I was getting at someone which I wasn't

I can sort of see why people think it sounds dodgy but when you think it through it really isn't

They could get round this by putting the BF's name on the lease/rent book, as legally he is not related to the landlord.

WeaselMum · 23/01/2007 13:47

sorry, ff2, that's not quite right - the rules take account of partners, PILs etc

There was definatley a bit on the form I had to fill in (Ok this was back in 1996) where I had to state the name and address of the Landlord and whether I was related to them. My parents lived 40 miles away and as I said the other rooms in the house were rented out to students/ex students who each had their own separate rent books.

julienetmum · 23/01/2007 14:13

Putting her boyfriends name on the rent book would mean definately no housing benefit as full time students are not entitled to housing benefit.

WeaselMum · 23/01/2007 14:17

sorry, julienetmum, that's not right either - fulltime students are not entitled to hb themselves but in this case the partner of the student is clearly claiming JSA or income support and they are entitled to it as a couple. Fulltime students who are lone parents are also entitled to claim hb.
