Can you not pay by card? Some CCs have a pin number and/or cheque book. Cash is usually a higher rate though.

Fimbo · 17/01/2007 13:18

You can take cash out like a debit card from a machine using your pin number. There will be a daily limit though so you can take out thousands!

Piffle · 17/01/2007 13:18

interest for cash advance is astronomical
PLUs if you have an outstanding balance it always means you pay off the cash advance LAST therefore costing you squidloads more.

Biglips · 17/01/2007 13:28

the money i like to take out is not a bank but a cc company

Piffle · 17/01/2007 13:29

ring them and ask?

suzycreamcheese · 17/01/2007 13:29

you do, you pay through the nose..wont they accept cc? gives you a protection too i think..

pin and chip at bank machine..

Cappuccino · 17/01/2007 13:30

agree it's gonna cost you

best if it's a big amount to try to get a loan or something?

Biglips · 17/01/2007 13:31

yes i will ring them as its a friend who doing the tiling and wanted cash in hand as its my dp's friend

That will be eye wateringly expensive, I shudder to think of the APR.

suzycreamcheese · 17/01/2007 13:35

cant they hang on, if mate etc..or have bit now bit later, you will pay loads of interest and charges etc...

Cappuccino · 17/01/2007 13:36

they charge a standard fee on top of the apr as well for cash advances I think

is there really no more sensible way you could do this? paying him in installments with a little bit extra for him, if he's a friend, for waiting longer, would surely be a better solution than paying all your money to a credit card company

Imafairy · 17/01/2007 13:42

Biglips do anything but get out a large amount of money on your cc - it will take AGES to pay off.
Could you not wait till next month to get it done when you have the cash to pay for it?

Biglips · 17/01/2007 16:12

well dp is taking over his bosses business in April and will have the cash to pay it off very quickly

OP posts:
Twiglett · 17/01/2007 16:14

you would be extremely foolish to take money out on your CC

get a loan / overdraft

but you'll end up paying anywhere from 14% - 30% interest

Twiglett · 17/01/2007 16:15

you'll end up paying 14 - 30 % if you take a cash advance on your credit card

Biglips · 17/01/2007 16:15

well i have got an overdraft atm that im trying to get out of it

OP posts:
katzg · 17/01/2007 16:16

i think you pay interest from the day you take money /cash out too so none of the 28days like with purchases.

Imafairy · 17/01/2007 16:34

Could you not wait till April when you can afford it?

Twiglett · 17/01/2007 16:35

even the head of barclaycard said that taking money out on credit cards is a stupid move

although what you could do is take out a 0% interest card then transfer the balance .. it'll probably cost you 2% up to £50 max .. depends how much you're plannign on spending I suppose

Imafairy · 17/01/2007 16:50

Twig - apparently most of those 0% and balance transfers EXCLUDE cash advances.

Twiglett · 17/01/2007 17:30

yes they do .. but you take it out on existing card then transfer the balance over and they don't know what's cash and what's credit IYSWIM ..

a few times we've ended up with companies putting the money in our bank account so that we can they pay it off .. I think Virgin are one of those types

Piffle · 18/01/2007 08:44

I'm tempeted to be really rude and presumptive and say if you have not got cash to pay someone for doing something and are having to resort to cash advances on cc, then you really should not be spending anything.
sorry I know that's really rude but if you're overdrawn to the max...
I worry xx

Biglips · 18/01/2007 08:46

weve decided to use the overdraft as we can pay that back by the end of the month

we arent patience people you see!
