Can anyone recommend a good website or other to help us do this? I am bewildered by the range of options!!

Thanks

Go to a Solicitor to have it properly drawn up. DIY wills are a disaster waiting to happen.

Thanks - I was coming round to that conclusion so nice to have it confirmed!

Can I hijack and ask how much it will cost (roughly)?

Thankyou xXx

Depends on the complexity of the will. Also, whether you and partner/dh are having separate wills drawn up or mirror wills (i.e. each will leaves stuff to the other and all provisions otherwise are the same).

Also depends on where you live! London solicitors will charge more. Ring round local solicitors to get the best price - but also see if you can get a recommendation as the cheapest is not necessarily the best choice.

I second Attila. We got ours done cheaply (£99) by a will-writing company that was recruiting clients at a local supermarket. Big mistake. Our wills were as simple as can be but even so the end result was full of mistakes.

They got our names wrong and described dh as my partner instead of husband (which makes a pretty fundamental difference if one of you dies). They were rude and unhelpful about amendments. I had no confidence that they had got anything right at all in the end.

Just had them re-done properly by a solicitor for just over £300. Also conferred enduring power of attorney on one another as part of that (in case one of us is unconscious or incapacitated by a prolonged illness - I'm a belt and braces type).
