oUR HORRID NEIGHBOUR IS LETTING HIS DOG SHIT IN OUR FIELD

He's letting his dog go into our field for his night poo. Not caught him yet but we know its happening cos we hear him. By the time we get there they've gone.

They live in a bungalow and used to rent the field from previous owner so have a gate which they are meant to have closed up but haven't. We have tons of other work and havent got round to closing the gate- they have assured us that they wont use it.

They have also got a 'soakaway tank' under one of the fields which isnt on our plans and has no pp for and wa\snt disclosed to us hwen we bought the land- what can we do about this? We found out about it after we bought the land and it has been there 3 years.

They've also taken a small corner of our land (before we got here)

Plus he's a nasty piece of work

get round to closing the gate up

Pixiefish · 06/01/2007 22:55

we're meant to be getting sheep there soon. with one of the gates its against part of the contested land so we dont want to close that one as it could be n admission that we acept his border

Get legal advice. The dog thing - he is allowing his dog to be a nuisance and he is responsible for his dog'd behaviour. You could take him to court and get damages.

Re the tank thing, ask the planning dept, but also your sol.

As for the bit of land he has nicked, you need to get it in writing that you object to him using it. I think he needs to have had use of it for 12 yrs with no objections. You can also ask your conveyencer to contact the previous owner to see if they had ever objected.

And if the dog worries your sheep you could get the dog destroyed.

I would collect the mess up when they are not around and deposit back on their land .

Temp fence across the gate(to stop access?)rather than a permanent wall/fence (admitting defeat?)

Pixiefish · 07/01/2007 00:16

lizziemun- my idea, dh disagrees.

i went up there last night and spoke in a loud voice that i knew what he as doing.

off to sol's on tuesday as its driving dh mad

You have a FIELD!!!

DimpledThighs · 07/01/2007 01:28

get some barbed wire and attach it over the gate area so he can't undo it.

What a lazy sod. (the neighbour not you!)

Pixiefish · 07/01/2007 13:06

chocolatebirdy- we live in a rural area and have a few acres.

Have spoken to a local farmer who is going to put some sheep on it this week for us

This happened at my mum's house (she has a field at the back of her house)Asked him politely and he said it wasn't him. So we collected up the dog shit and threw it into his garden

kittypants · 02/03/2007 12:48

take picture of his dog pooing in your feild and get some of the poo in a nappy bag.leave it on his doorstep with note saying i think you left this in our feild by accident!

Radley · 02/03/2007 12:52

Have you managed to sort anything out yet?

BellaLasagne · 19/03/2007 16:44

We've had exactly the same problem with both neighbours either side allowing (i.e. not controlling) their dogs into our paddock to bark at eith other which upset our sheep.

We just shouted at them. But if the dogs had worried our sheep I would have called the police.

If you can prove it's his dog (by taking a photo) let him know somehow that you'll take action if his dog worried the sheep. Let the sheep's owner know too as it's not fair to accept sheep onto your land if you knwo there's a problem. Are you registered with DEFRA (you should be if you're having sheep on your land) - ask them for advice.
