particuarly interested to know if you're a single parent with 3 young children living in a small 3 bedroom midterrace with gas central heating.

Trying to work out how much I'm going to be paying a month for my utilities (already know how much TVL, Council Tax and phone are going to cost) - at the moment I'm working it out based on a 2 adults and 2 children in a large 3 bedroom end of terrace (with gas central heating) - but I'm guessing it won't be quite as much?????

im paying £40 pcm for my water. do you think i should change to a meter? would it be cheaper? its a 3 bed semi. 2 adults 2 kids.

Posey · 06/01/2007 21:27

According to my mum, if you have more bedrooms than people living in the house, you would be better with a water meter. So for them, 2 of them in a 4 bedroomed house they're better off with a meter.

We pay about £200 per year for water (in 2 installments), and about £20 per month for gas and electricity. We live in a 3 bed purpose built maisonette.

AND our rubbish is only collected once a fortnight [grrrr]

buktus · 06/01/2007 21:50

ours is £170 a month and we get fortnightly collections and if the wheelie bin lid isnt closed they will remover the bags on top and leave them on the pavement for next time

zoeuk1 · 06/01/2007 21:53

our council tax is about £100 pcm. and we only get a collection evey 2 wks. one of our bins is micro chipped!

cece · 06/01/2007 21:56

buktus

ours is the same - they don't take any rubbish that isn't in the closed wheely bin.

Luckily my nieghbour always has space for an extra bag

buktus · 06/01/2007 21:56

what does a micro chip do - sorry for being thick

mousiemousie · 06/01/2007 22:02

Do you have loft insulation and double glazing?

zoeuk1 · 06/01/2007 22:13

buktus, at the moment the micro chip does nothing. but ive heard that in the future the bin will be weighed. and to put it simply, if you have more rubbish one week then you'll have to pay extra. think it'll go onto your council tax bill. not sure really.

I'm in a 3 bedroomed ground floor flat and there are 4 of us, 2 adults 2 children.

WE pay £25 pm electric, we have a meter that we put tokens in, I requested this as I like to know how much I'm using and have never had to put in more than £25pm in the 6 years we've been here.

For gas we pay direct debit and it was £25 but went up last year to £34 the gas company said that it was because we were using more than we were paying for but that's a lie it's because they've put up the price of gas but they like to make you think it's your fault. we have gas central heating and a gas cooker.

I can't comment on water as we're in Scotland and our water is paid through the council tax.

nikkie · 06/01/2007 23:38

The chipped wheely bin thing, what happens whenothers fill your bin up, its always happening here.My Xmas bin only had 3 bags in and when I went out to put something in last min it was over flowing and my bins always disappearing to someone elses house.

themoon66 · 06/01/2007 23:57

Cannot see how weighing your bin can work fairly. Unless we all have individual locks and keys. Jeez, what a faff. The fly tipping down our lane is bad enough now, I dread to think what it'll be like if people are avoiding a charge.

cece · 07/01/2007 10:10

OMG my neighbour isn't going to be very pleased if I start filling up his empty bin with my overflow if they start weighing them!

I thought collections once a fortnight was bad enough!

nikkie · 07/01/2007 17:50

think it would be fairer if they did it by reducing charges for recycling or something that way rather than the rubbish (ie everyone wanting more glass/paper etc?)
