It's something I need (or will do very soon) when I move into a rented place - I've looked on moneysupermarket and there's LOADS of them - all very similar prices and I could do with some recommendations for decent, cheap, home contents insurers.

Thanks.

I looked on Confused.com and just went with the cheapest....

Sorry, I should have said we are in rented too.

oh and also - how much should I get insurance for??? I have no clue about these things - "D"H and I had enough trouble trying to come up with a realistic figure when sorting our insurance for this house when doing it together!

I would recomend Liverpool Victoria. I originally went with them for price (though this was before the days of the new e-insurers) however after fantastic service from them following a break-in I will never leave them. (They phoned to check the locksmith and other people had been so we were not left unsecure was just one of the extra little touches)

My IFA says they are one of the best too.

NurseyJo Do you mean this bit
'For buildings insurance your home is neither rented or leased to you, nor let, lent or sub-let by you'
That only applies to the buildings insurance which you don't need if you are renting as it should be covered by your landlord.
I had no probs getting a quote

Fannyannie - As for the amount to insure for we had no idea either. Ended up with £40 000 I think. Not a clue really. I would perhaps base it on what you had before halved or something ???

we switched to barclays last summer. halved our monthly premium.

dh's car got broken into, just back from hols and hadn't unpacked.

after a certain amount of chasing they replaced digi-cam, dvd cam-corder, sat-nav and laptop.

we provided proof of purchase for all but sat-nav as was a gift from friend going o/s.

was a bit of a struggle and all items replaced not financially settled.

however, i was pleasantly surprised that they were relatively prompt with the settlement and the premium hasn't increased.

to clarify this was our home contents insurance.

sorry haven't read whole thread - just title.
