GOOD PLACE TO GET A LOAN??

Hi,

we have lived in our council house for year now and the state of it is getting me down, i need to do it up, properly, new couch, kitchen, wooden floors ect

so whats the best place to get a loan?

needs good repayment rates ect,

but also have to be fairly easy in saying 'yes' - we tried our bank a few months ago but they turned us down,

not due to BAD credit, just due to no credit history really - havent got a loan / credit card before.

thanks in advance

DF works full time, ok wage, ect

it'll be hard with no credit rating... if you're in no big hurry, get a store card, and use it/pay it off, then a small credit card, use it/pay it off... and build it up like that. Then the best thing would be to get a 0% credit card.

Check Moneysupermarket where you can compare the rates for lenders. I tried to get a loan through northern rock a couple of weeks ago and they declined us so I thought I'd give my bank(LloydsTSB) a try, I clicked on the 'apply for a loan' button online and it literally transfered the 10k into my account within half an hour without even talking to anyone!

store card first, to build a credit rating. Then a credit card with a few 100 limit, then build it up like that.

check with council about 'decent homes standards' and refitting of new kitchens and bathrooms - if your is of not a good standard you will be getting a new one anyway - it may however be in about a year or so - but the govt has set deadlines for councils and HAs to do this - so please ask them when your kitchen and bathroom are due to be re done - this may wel also involve thngs like renewing heating, insulation, internal doors, windows etc

how fucked up would it be for you to spend 10k getting gorg house for council to say 2 right love were ripping yout new wallpaper, treading shit into your new carpet etcetc cos we have this work to do.

so well worth asking this question before you go making a decision.

regarding loans - please enquire after your local CREDIT UNION. its a loans and savings cooperative and if your GOOGLE ABCUL ( assoc briticsh cred union lenders i think that acronym stands for) then there maybe some more info about your local credit union.

Good point custy, my friend recently redecorated most of her house, only for her to be informed that they will be installing central heating and ripping out the old windows in 6 mths.

Tortington · 30/12/2006 14:46

what makes me piss is that we are supposed to look after these homes as our own - yet no one ever informs you 9 as a tenant) of anything happening 'cos your only a tenant' and we have to put up with it.

kittylettekissingsanta · 30/12/2006 15:06

good point,

were actully probably transfering from council to a 'non for profit' private tenant after february - because the council cant afford repairs

well not for profits can mortgage your house to raise revenue -c ouncils are not allowed to. bizarre

Hideehi · 30/12/2006 20:25

Here's a crazy idea, couldn't you save up and not pay a small fortune in interest, in fact the banks pay you interest so you get the cushions for your new sofa for nowt !!!

Tortington · 31/12/2006 23:49

please explain yourself hideehi, i for one understand that the inerest only on a 3 bed house in the south of enland (if your lucky) work out at 850 pcm.

my 3 bed HA house is 380 - i am 3 mins from the sea - in posh area
