well,, for mortgages, you can do a self cert one, where you do not have to produce wage slips etc, but you will still be subject to a credit check..and might not get the most competitive interest rate

Probably could be done - would probably envolve some element of lies and a lender that wasn't too concerned with credit checks. - could claim to be self employed and self certify. Not envolved in this industry 10 yeras ago but would imagine it could have been done then aswell. I think it the old addage that you can get anything if you know the right people or the right means.

According to dh most reputable companies would be very reluctant without evidence of how repayments would be met. The lower the loan to value the more likely it is to be approved(less risk for lender) but they would still require proof of income etc.

Yes it's possible.

You can remortgage with most lenders up to 75% loan to value without proof of income. It is called fast track. a few lenders will go 85% LTV with no income check. This is used by all the high street lenders, its one of the reasons that house prices are so high. Hope this helps

Was this always the case do you know. I thought these mortgages where they ask for bugger all proof of income have only been popular inthe last 3/4 years.

dh reckoned it could have been possible, if less frequently, for many years.
